To Veil and Hairpin!

October 16th, 2008 @ 5:07 pm by Mrs. Spring Roll

As previously mentioned, I was torn between several hairpiece options. I’ve narrowed down my selections and have decided, like many fellow bees and brides alike, to be a two veil/hairpiece bride. I plan to wear a lace veil for the ceremony, then switch over to a flower hairpin for the reception. I fell hard for a beautiful ivory silk flower hairpin from Hair Comes the Bride.

Although beautiful, I couldn’t validate spending $64 on a hairpin. So I took a trip to Joann’s and picked up a hair comb, an ivory silk rose bush, and a large ivory feather. 15 dollars and 15 minutes spent with wire cutters, scissors, and a glue gun, turned into this:

Have you attempted to DIY your own version of a more expensive item?

I’ve been seeing the look on most brides few months before I got married and was dismayed when I found out they aren’t cheap. Like yourself, I did the smart thing. I bought materials from Michaels Craft Store and made one myself, it only cost me $10.

Your rendition is gorgeous:)

I made a DIY “This Way to the Wedding Sign” after seeing Mrs. Peony’s delightful details sign. I may also attempt a card box like the ones on the For the Modern Bride site. It’s always fun to see what you can do before forking over the big $ :)

@Miss Taffy: I’ve been waiting for that tutorial! I think you mentioned last week you were going to be making one. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! Maybe it’ll give me more confidence to make my own too!

You’ve inspired me to try making one… or, since you’re making one for Miss Lemonade (ha), can you make me one too?
