The Elephant In the Room

October 17th, 2008 @ 9:33 am by Mrs. Meatball

Here’s a teaser of an image I interpreted into a “wedding logo” of sorts… fear not—its uses will be revealed, in time…

The Elephant In the Room : wedding hollywood Mb1 mb1

But, what does it mean? Well, I’m glad you asked!

We chose the Ganesh because he is known as the Remover of Obstacles and the Lord of Beginnings. According to Kundalini Yoga, Ganesha resides in the first chakra (at the solar plexus), and Ganesha holds, supports, and guides all other chakras, thereby “governing the forces that propel the wheel of life”. That’s right folks, Ganesha is the captain of your Chakra ship. Or maybe in our case, the captain of our Magic Carpet Ride!

I love how this interpretation of him is loose and romantic—even his ears resemble hearts! I included the lotus flower, known for its divine beauty, because the unfolding petals can be seen to represent expansion of the soul. How fitting, I think!

Now, in case you’re wondering—neither Mr. Meatball nor I are Hindu or Buddhist. But we are lovers of Eastern arts and cultures. We also respect many aspects of their respective faiths, and try to integrate those things into our everyday lives. We’re designing a very eclectic ceremony, which borrows our favorite bits of many world religions and spiritual practices, and integrating that sensibility into our design as well. Hence, our “Magic Carpet Ride” theme!

That’s right, friends. My name is Miss Meatball, and I’m a bit of a dirty hippie. Represent!

Are you including a central “logo” in your wedding?

I LOVE this, that each piece has meaning! I am a bit of a hippie as well, but I really relate to the idea of everything you use being meaningful and special. Plus, it’s beautiful! Will you be explaining all of this to your guests, or will it be your secret?

Mr. Lemonade is also a dirty hioppy - he LIVES in tie-dye (guess we can’t avoid it in Austin)
Your logo is so original and very cool — love it!

How beautiful! Many Hindu wedding invitations have a Ganesh on them in some form. He is invoked at the beginning of most prayer ceremonies. I love how yours is curvy and elegant. And the ears look like hearts!!!

I love your logo! Very artsy and romantic. I’m playing around with creating a ‘logo’ for my wedding. I love daisies and am using them as my main wedding flower. So to my surprise several months after that decision did I discover (through some creative/imaginative rearranging) that our wedding initials (MLC) you could create a daisy! Still not sure if I’m going to use that idea, or simply stick a daisy above the ‘L’ as a logo.

I find it very interesting that you’re a “hippie” but that you don’t seem to express any concern or thought about appropriating these symbols from their contexts.
