We Need a New Fondue Pot!

October 20th, 2008 @ 11:28 am by Ms Fondue

I was totally excited to register for gifts. I mean, what’s not to love about running around a store and fantasizing about owning cool stuff? Mr. Fondue was a little hesitant at first, but he soon got into it.

Can you tell the majority of the house is decorated in our wedding colors?

The first place we went to was Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Our bridal consultant there was a little too chatty, when we were just anxious to get out on the floor and scan stuff. She seemed completely shocked when I said I didn’t know how many, if any, showers I would be having, so she set us a goal of 175 items to register for.  We did not meet that goal, but if you total our items from both registries, we probably did.

Target was our other choice (Have I mentioned my obsession with Target?). Mr. Fondue wasn’t feeling well that day, so I tackled it by myself (notice the damask dishes he let me leave on the list, although he did make me remove the damask bedding), and then reviewed the items with him later online.

I think we pretty much covered everything. We tried to cover a bunch of different price points, so hopefully our guests will be able to find something within their price range.

Where did you register, and did you enjoy the experience there?

We registered at B,B, & B (our consultant was really chatty too), Target, and Younkers (midwest department store). The best was probably B,B, & B and the worst was Younkers. Younkers website was horrible and not the best customer service. I am in love with target and most of our gift came from there, however returning things there was difficult.

@MrsDavis: OH! Why was returning things difficult? I figured we’d do Target — well-priced, well-designed stuff makes me happy.

I have heard very bad things about Target’s return policy also. I believe they require receipts even though it was a gift, etc. and somethings they don’t take at all…I would read the fine print before registering there!

Yay, the damask dishes! We ended up getting a second set for a new year’s party. I love them!

We haven’t registered yet, but we know we will be going to Target for one of our choices! Everyone is telling us to do it in Jan. after the holidays. I have no idea when the best time to go would be…

@kara: I heard recently (in the past month or two) that they changed their policy and you can now use the registry as a receipt, instead of needing a gift receipt. I was wary about registering there before I learned that.

@Miss Taffy: We opted to do it now just in case anyone decides to do their Christmas shopping off our registry.

That’s good to know! Thanks for the update Miss Fondue! I was going to avoid Target, but maybe I will look into it now!

I would be careful about Target I just went to their website and it looks like while yes you can use your registry to return stuff that guests ordered online, stuff that was purchased at the actual STORE Still Requires a gift receipt. See the link to their policyhttp://www.target.com/b/?node=1084718
Be very careful with target I know I had a terrible time returning stuff there without a reciept and so have friends who have had registries there.

I would highly recommend registering at Macy’s!!! Target was really difficult with returns and we ended up actually giving away duplicate items to family members because Target was so difficult to work with. :( I did notice, too, that the colors of items we registered for fit in with our wedding colors!!!

@Miss Fondue: @Miss Fondue: The last time I returned something (a couple months ago) from my registry without a reciept they could not use my registry as the gift reciept but maybe its changed more recently?? Or the person at my store didn’t know what they were talking about??

@Miss Cheese: I LOVE Target so I don’t regret registering there but returning things is a hassle b/c (at least for me) I had to havea gift reciept. If I didn’t it was recorded as a return w/out reciept and you only get two of those a year (they keep track with your drivers license). And one of them was used up b/c the barcode on the gift reciept, the one on the registry, and the one in their computer system did not match for an item. Totally not my fault but it ate up one of my two per year. A couple other small issues too but I can’t resist Target. Love ‘em.

We registered at BB&B and Crate and Barrell. We strayed away from Target because of all of the horror stories I’ve heard about returning stuff. The two places we DID register have absolutely wonderful return policies. I actually took a wine chiller back to BB&B 9 months after we received it as a gift, no box, no receipt, AND it had gone up $20 in price since my sis purchased it. It hadn’t come from a registry, so we got store credit for the higher price!! LOVE THEM.

I was a MOH recently and to solve the Target return policy nightmare, we noted on the shower invites to be sure to include a gift receipt due to strict return policy. Everyone listened!
This is important b/c Target is not good at marking off purchases…you there will always be a duplicate.

@Amanda: That’s a good tip, just in case. Thanks!

We had to register at either Target or Wal-Mart because of the location of many of our guests (smaller towns with no BB&B or Macy’s, etc.). And, well, Target won over Wal-Mart. ;)

We first went to Dillards, where 5 or 6 salespeople were standing around the desk chatting and no one asked us for help after we were wondering around the China section for 10 minutes…so we left and went to Macy’s, where, when we asked “Do you have Rachel Ray stuff here?” we were answered with a rude “I don’t know…should we?!” from one of the salespeople…so we went to Sears, where they had Rachel Ray and were very helpful. Also went to Target and online at Crate and Barrel…so far so good…hopefully we’ll escape the horrific return problems everyone is talking about with Target.

I really wanted to register at Target because FBIL works in administration for Target and it is based in the Twin Cities, where the in-laws and many of FI’s family lives. The prices are also great. But, after hearing many registry horror stories we also opted out. We are registered at BB&B, Crate and Barrel and with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society/Team in Training.

We registered at B3, and they also pushed us to register for more items, but we decided to stick to our original list and then add more items if we felt we needed to as the wedding got closer. Once my three showers were done, there were very few items purchased off of the registry, and after the wedding, we still have a lot of items left on our list. For the wedding most people either gave us cash or gift cards (many of which were for Target where we were not registered).

Oh! And don’t forget to check your registries after the holidays and make updates for things that are being clearanced out.
