About Mrs. Sea Breeze

Hello dear hive!! Maybe you haven’t noticed I’ve been M.I.A. this past week but I sure have… I’m missin’ you like CRAY-ZAY. Last week was insane and sad at the same time. It’s given me a lot to ruminate on… and if you read Meatball’s Midnight Confession, then you’ll have an inkling of what’s been going on in my head too. To make a long story short, my company laid off a third of its workforce last week for the second time in the past two months… I wasn’t one of them. It sure was hard, though.

Needless to say, it’s made choosing the color of our parasols even more trivial/frivolous than it was before (which it was, I’ll be the first to admit) but then again… in times like these, sometimes what you want most is a little distraction, you know? If we look to history, we’ll see evidence of this effect time and time again. We’re only human, after all. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.

Speaking of distractions and parasols…

After going through your votes and awesome suggestions for various purple-lilac-white combos, I finally decided what to order.

After All, It's Just a Parasol : wedding accessories punta cana Parasol11.jpg

After all that, I came to the conclusion that three different colors was too much. I know, I know… I’m so annoying. I also realized that in most of the examples I had seen, the girls all had white parasols and so of course, the trailblazer instinct in me flared up so I ordered 3 lilac, 1 purple and 0 white.

Imagine my dismay when they arrived and I realized that the lilac wasn’t so lilacky after all. It looked more like pink! Dontcha think?

Good thing I ordered them through Ideal Favors because dealing with them was a dream. Their customer service rep was very kind and understanding and within three hours, had dispatched a courier to come pick up the parasols for an exchange. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Oh and what am I getting instead? All white, of course. D’oh.

Crisis averted! Well, maybe not ‘crisis’. After all, it’s just a parasol. My definition of crisis has been redefined this past month.

Are you having a hard time putting your wedding planning into perspective these days? Are you flip flopping between thinking it’s frivolous on the one hand, and a welcome escape from our current economic and political reality on the other hand? Is there a happy medium somewhere in there?

I ordered parasols a few months ago from a different company, in red. They look pink to me (and everyone I ask), but I don’t care enough to send them back since it’s such a small part of the day. I’m just hoping they’ll look more red when we’re out in the sun and in photos, haha.

Either way, I do find wedding planning (and all it’s asinine tiny details) to be a welcome distraction. I’ve always loved planning, so it brings a sense of normalcy to my life.

I think white is best. :-) For the photos, a parasol with a darker color, like your purple, would cast a color shadow that would look okay in person, but awful in pics. So, you made the right choice, in the end. :-)

It is hard to put into perspective sometimes, I definitely agree!

I also worked with Ideal Favors and had a similarly wonderful experience!

I’ve been missing me some Breezy!

I hear you on the frivolousness! As I came closer and closer to going over budget, I had to toss some last DIY projects out the window because a) they would have put me over budget b) they were REALLY frivolous. The wedding still was perfect in my book without the frivolity.

BTW: Love your parasols!

I felt really guilty, bc I have been trying to contact Linens N Things to ask about my registry, bc they are going bankrupt…

I think I kinda like the pink/lilac :) In your expert opinion, how many parasols do you think I should order for about 100 guests? I assume many will not want to use one.

I’m so sorry to hear about the layoffs at your company I know that can be hard even on the people that stay.
I know what you mean about putting wedding planning in perspective - FH and I are back on forth on how much to spend on our wedding.

I love parasols! I had a white one for me, an orange one for my 2 maid of honors, and fucshia (sp?) ones for my bridesmaids. They turned out GREAT in the photos!
