Miss Blush New York/Atlanta Age and Occupation: 25, Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law Student Engagement Date: July 13, 2007 Wedding Date: January 2009 Blogging Since: October 14, 2008 Venue: Church ceremony, country club reception About Me: I’m a Southern Girl marrying a Midwestern Boy, planning our Southern winter wedding from Manhattan. I love paper, photography, hand-sanitizer, high ceilings, colored pencils, brunch, and Frosted Mini-Wheats. If I could, I would hand-write everything, travel without a map, stare at diamonds all day long, don my favorite stilettos to the supermarket, play with the NY Philharmonic, attach a Karaoke system to my car, and run 3 miles at 6 AM every morning. Mr. Blush and our families mean the world to me, and I can not wait to share our wedding preparations with you!

Our Family Engagement

October 21st, 2008 @ 1:21 pm by Mrs. Blush

We had an engagement party. Korean tradition highlights engagement parties—where families can meet and promise the union of their children. Both Mr. Blush and I are very family-oriented so we wanted to honor this tradition and provide this moment for our parents.

It was a small gathering of family and our parents’ friends held last summer in Atlanta. We actually had it at the country club where our wedding reception will be held, but didn’t know that at the time. The club was amazingly helpful and organized, and that’s why we’re using them again.

The setup—it was a large U-shape

My mom and aunt tied all the chair sashes. We didn’t really have a color scheme, but decided on sage organza sashes for the August affair.

The six of us (my parents, Mr. Blush’s parents, Mr. Blush, and I) sat at the head table.
Our guests sat on the sides.

My mom’s friend was the florist. The flowers were simple and clean, with the pink and ivory roses to pop amongst the greenery and hints of baby’s breath. What do you think of baby’s breath? I love it, but have heard negative things about using it for weddings.

Our aunt’s engagement gift—Swarovski Crystal Flutes. They are SO gorgeous.

Our cake—please excuse the top. We had a minor accident.

The great thing about the club was that we were allowed to bring our own wine and pay a small corkage fee.

Dinner. Yummmmm.

FMIL’s hair. Her hair was very short (maybe an inch below the ears) but our hair stylist was able to create this!

Us :)

I wore a Teri Jon dress and Cynthia Rowley’s Trilogy shoes. Mr. Blush wore a Calvin Klein suit and a Tommy Hilfiger tie.

I am so glad we were able to have an engagement party, because it gave us a “practice round.” Although the size and scale of our engagement party to our wedding is very different, planning and communicating with vendors let me see a glimpse of what real wedding planning is going to be like.

Did you have to plan any events that gave you a “practice round” to wedding planning?

What a beautiful party! I’m using gold and sage for my July 09 wedding colors and I was also thinking about sage chair sashes. Do you mind sharing where you found those?

I’m an Atlanta bride looking for a venue. As my fiancee and I are big wine-fans, we’re looking for somewhere where we can bring our own wine and pay corkage fees. May I ask what your venue is? If you’d rather not post, you can email me at cjedegennaro at gmail dot com.

Thanks!

I love the look of large urns of baby’s breath and am considering it for my wedding. What have you heard about it?

@Miss Lychee: the sashes were actually a vendor the country club uses- I’m not sure where they’re from- but they’re sage organza sashes

@diorable: Cake cutting was a surprise for us too! It’s totally a tradition thing- but we didn’t mind! Yumm :)

@Courtney: No prob! Berkeley Hills Country Club. Let me know if you like it there!

@Jen: of course Jen!

@msgirard: Honestly, I don’t remember what was said exactly, but it was negative. I DO love your urn idea! I’m seriously considering a massive baby’s breath floral piece somewhere in the reception.
