La Luna de Miel: Our Jungle Trek

October 21st, 2008 @ 3:48 pm by Mrs. Cookie

The slightly overcast day was perfect weather for our ATV trek through the mountains. Mr. Cookie I decided to go tandem riding because a) I drive like a grandma, b) I don’t know how to drive a stick, c) there were times that I was holding on to Mr. Cookie for dear life. As this is the rainy season, the jungle rivers were high, which made our excursion all the more fun and muddy!

These were the LARGE spiders that were dangling over our heads throughout the jungle. Although harmless, they still gave me the creeps!

Our first stop was a little outpost by a waterfall.

The owner made the best margaritas!

As the backseat rider, my job was to be the photographer. Here is my attempt at an ATV action series.

When we crossed the rivers, I had to lift my leg up to avoid getting burned by the steam from the engine.

It’s not an ATV trek without a little mud!

I was drooling over the scenery the entire time.

Our second stop was to taste some tequila. Look at those Agave plants. T-E-Q-U-I-L-A!

This is the Agave root, which is massive. Apparently, it can take up to ten years for the Agave plant to mature before it can be harvested for tequila. Mr. Cookie and I tasted a cafè tequila liqueur that we liked so much, we bought a bottle.

Piece of advice: If you want to bring any tequila back to the U.S. (which you probably will want to) DON’T OPEN THE BOTTLE! Mr. Cookie and I brought back another bottle of tequila that we had bought at a grocery store. We opened it to make margaritas for our jacuzzi evenings. When I went to unpack, the bottle was gone and there was a TSA note that our bags had been searched. The tequila liqueur, that we had bubble wrapped and not opened, well the bubble wrap was ripped open and re-taped with TSA tape. Luckily, the bottle didn’t break. So, word of caution don’t open the bottle!

Do you have any exciting excursions planned for your honeymoon?

Next up on the Cookies’ la luna de miel: eating like a local.

Looks like you saw some cool places! I could never ride on an ATV with Mr. PN - I drive like a Grandma too and he scares the crap out of me sometimes!

How much fun! We are honeymooning in Puerto Vallarta as well and would love something like that. Did you set it up through the hotel or book it before you got there?
