Our flight to Portland didn’t leave until 6:45 PM on Sunday, so we had plenty of time to relax at home for a few hours and pack (no, we hadn’t packed yet). We caught up on Project Runway, did a few loads of laundry and filled our suitcases to the brim. Of course, as soon as our booties hit the plane seats, I began to take pictures using my iPhone, digital camera - whatever I could get my hands on to document our trip.

Our wedding rings on the plane. There are many of these, so I’ll only bother you with one - we were just too excited!
When we arrived in Portland it was drizzling a bit - the nice, cozy, fall weather we were looking forward to snuggle up in. We picked up our luggage and hopped on the MAX Light Rail for only $2.50 per person. We elected to nix renting a car as Portland’s metro transportation is amazing and it would have been a frivolous expense. The light rail dropped us off no more than 2 city blocks away from our Minimoon digs, the Hotel deLuxe.

Mr. Pomegranate maxin’ and relaxin’ on the MAX Light Rail.
When we arrived at the Hotel deLuxe , we were pleased to see that the photos on the website were pretty darn accurate - it was TOTALLY Hollywood Chic done right. I especially loved the gigantic round bed and the blue velvet chairs. The best part? A huge walk-in closet that kept the unpacking and dirty clothes clutter to a minimum throughout the week.

This is pretty much exactly how the room looked when we arrived - sans the blue Tiffany box, of course.
They didn’t mention the gorgeous view we’d have (taken the next morning)!
Our welcome champagne with a sweet card addressed to my new married name!
Once we settled in, we decided to head down to the hotel bar, The Driftwood Room. We drank a few cocktails, munched on fresh oysters and once I began to slur my words (more due to exhaustion rather than the alcohol), Mr. Pom and I decided to call it a night. This was my first experience enjoying oysters - who knew a little Tabasco could turn something slimy and gross into something fabulously tasty?!

These were our “official” seats for the week - I would have taken my own photo, but the lighting is deliciously dark in there.
The next morning, we headed down to breakfast at the hotel’s restaraunt, Gracie’s, where I dined on some incredible bread pudding french toast. It was amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I had it again via room service on our last day. I will miss you bread pudding french toast!!

See the crunchy exterior made of corn flakes? It holds a warm, gooey, yummy treasure inside!
We headed to Powell’s Books, a must-see for any PDX tourist. I was in book heaven! Mr. Pomegranate had been to Powell’s before, so he insisted that we split up so that I could experience its awe on my own and meet at the cafe later. Both of us are huge book fiends, so after wandering around for a few hours, it was difficult to pare down my finds into a managable armful to purchase. After all, they must fit in our luggage to cart home! I came home with a signed copy of Chuck Palahniuk’s Diary (Chuck’s a local, you know), some chic-lit in the form of Lauren Weisberger’s Everyone Worth Knowing, and a little peek into our traveling future (France!!) in the form of Stephen Clarke’s A Year in the Merde.

Powell’s from the inside. Drool.
After Powell’s and some chai, we became pretty ravenous, so we headed to the Yelp-favored Ten 01. This was definitely the best meal we ate in Portland. From the perfect service - with an attentive (but not overly attentive), friendly, waitress - to the fabulously presented and tasty food. We took pictures of everything, but almost every time we dug in and took a bite before we snapped the shot, leaving us to figure out a way to position the forks so as to hide our bites.

Fresh local beets with gorgonzola panna cotta.
My Meal: Lamb chops with goat cheese gnocchi, asparagus and lamb au jus.
Mr. Pom’s Meal: Steak with sweet corn yummies (that’s my own term for lack of remembering the menu wording) and potato chips.
Flourless chocolate cake with sage ice cream and whiskey caramel sauce.
It was reccommended that we pair the dessert with an Irish Whiskey - but we asked them to make it into an Irish Coffee for us.
The surprise extra dessert that came with our check: a strawberry gellie, a chocolate caramel, a peach gellie, and a lemon cookie.
After that amazing meal, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for our concert that night - which will be covered in the NEXT post, The Pom’s Minimoon Part II: The Sigur Ros Concert & a Massage.
