About Mrs. Lemonade

So, About This Weekend…

October 21st, 2008 @ 10:54 am by Mrs. Lemonade

Remember how I was going to pick Jackie up? Yeah, not so much. Turns out the wrong size was ordered. Let’s just say it was not pretty and more than a little traumatic.

We’re still not 100% sure how this happened but my powerful deductive reasoning skills lead me to believe that the shop ordered the dress in my street size and not the bridal size. There’s always the side chance that I’ve gained EVEN MORE weight since the initial ordering of the dress. However, with the help of Fitday I’ve been tracking my weight and nutrition and it looks like I’ve lost three whole pounds (woot!) since then. Either way, the damn thing was 2 sizes too small, and there is no way it is going to fit. Ever. All I wanted to do was cry. Or smoke a cigarette. Or both. But, I didn’t do either one.

I totally felt like I was in a trance as they took my measurements a few more times. I’m really not sure what the resolution is going to be. I just know I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. So, that’s what we did.

Since then I’ve tried not to think about it too much or be down on myself about it, but it’s been pretty hard not to do so. I have no idea how this is going to turn out but I’m sure in the end it will all work out. Right? Right?!?

Did you have to deal with size snafus?  What was your resolution?

My dress came in too small. We added a modesty panel and changed the back to a corset. Voila! and all of a sudden a one of a kind gown. ;)

I had my own dress issues just weeks before the wedding lemonade! My advice is to be VERy firm about your requests (demands). Make them do rush shipping, and don’t accept anything less (or any extra fees on top of it). The dress shop has a reputation to uphold and their goal should be to make you 100% happy with your dress. If you haven’t already, find out the email address of the shop owner and begin communicating with her. As soon as I started doing that problems really began to be solved. Everything worked out just fine for me and now it is just a bad memory.

They should have a copy of the order information, and of your measurements (taken when they ordered the dress). Anything else is such sloppy recordkeeping that frankly it wouldn’t be surprising that they made this kind of mistake. However, if they try to give you any crap about whose error this is, make them pull those records.

For everybody else, get a copy of your measurements and the order form the day your order the dress. Your shop should have no issues with this - after all, you’re paying a hefty deposit when they order. And they absolutely shouldn’t object to you showing interest in the process of taking your measurements, and what they are - have your mom or a friend who is shopping with you write everything down. If nothing else, you’ll understand the process quite a bit better.

I haven’t had size snafus, I got my dress custom-made. But I’ve gone to “pick up” my dress twice now, and both times it has had giant stains on it. The dressmaker was so nonchalant and told me that if it wasn’t a big deal to me she’d just return $20 of what I’ve paid. Um, WHAT?!?! I’m supposed to pick it up again today. I’m hoping for better news. I’ve cried so much over this already.

Great job on avoiding smoking!!! :)

I’m so sorry about your dress. Avocado is right- they better get busy and get you the correct size asap, and at no extra cost.

I had some drama with my size/order. They took my measurements, and wanted to order the street size that I wear. I knew that bridal runs smaller, and was worried that I wouldn’t fit into the dress if they ordered my street size. I like ice cream and did not want to worry every time I ate some that I wouldn’t fit into my dress!
I was so worried that I went in for a second measurement. When I measured myself, My waist was two inches larger than what they wrote down on the contract. I know how to measure correctly, and sure enough, when I went back in they were *squeezing* that measuring tape around my waist, making it two inches less. I told them that I was planning on eating on my wedding day, and breathing too! Who wants to be stuffed into a dress? They ordered the next size up. I’m pretty curious to see how it will fit when it arrives!

I agree with Mrs. Avocado. If you’re uncomfortable about it (or too emotional, which I totally understand), deputize someone else to call on your behalf. Heck, they can even say that they’re you, but they need to be firm and sweet. If all else fails, call me and I’ll do it!! You just need to be able to say, “I understand, but what would be acceptable is THIS” over and over until you get it. So sorry!
