Door Decor

The ever so popular flowered letters!

I’m not sure where I first saw them, but I knew these letters were something I definitely wanted to DIY. So when I was home a few months ago, I ventured to a discount home and garden store where I bought lots of discounted fake flowers, and to Jo-Ann’s where I purchased our letters: J & R.

I searched high and low for peach colored flowers—but there weren’t any I liked! Then… lightbulb! Buy white and pink flowers and MIX THEM! Overall the effect was better than the peach I was looking for. :)

z166814
I pulled out all the flowers from the stems and removed those round green things you see on the bottom of each flower

z16681301
Then punched holes in the letters with…

z16681401
this random sharp metal tool I found in my dad’s toolbox. I stapled parts of the flowers not only to secure them, but to also place  them where I wanted them to go.

z16681402
I inserted each flower like this, and proceeded with the stapling

z16681403
Here I was slowly coming along. I planned to paint the back and sides of the letters white before I started with the flowers, but I couldn’t wait to attach the flowers. :) The painting can come later.

Here is a close up of the R - this picture looks different because I touched it up w/ Picasa (my faaave).

Done!

Do you plan on using your initials at your wedding?  Where will you put them?

They look great and I love the colors even if its not peach! I want to make letters too. Not sure if I will do flowers, moss or just paint wooden ones. I think I like too many things! Because both of our initials are “M” we want to use our monogram in different places, make M drinks (mojito, margarita) and have M&M favors. Cheesy I know, but we are excited.

I’m hoping to make these, too, but probably smaller, since we don’t have an doors that would work…

I love it! We did something similar for our wedding we have the exact same initials. Our wedding was a mixture fo fall colors so i painted them in a merlot color and then had some sparkly paint on top so when the sun caught it it would have a shimmer look. Then hung them from the stairs leading into the reception with bold orange ribbon.

I wasn’t thinking I would want to use them but you have the same initials as my fiance and I. Now I am not sure, maybe I need to figure out a place to use them. Where are you going to use yours?

There are a few sites on etsy wedding where they do this stuff for you (not that expensive btw and I’m one of those girls who is short on time always) or they can put a design (saw one w/damask accent) on them and put the satin ribbon on them to hang with.

Beautiful… What are your letters made of? I’ve only seen the Craft Cuts wooden letters. How tall are they?

@Mrs. Emerald: I’m not sure- they’re back in Atlanta so I can’t check right away, but I think around 18”.

@jennred782: Probably on the front doors of the reception-luckily they have double doors :)

@Jen: & @Joy: I think they’re paper mache (but I’m not positive). Each letter cost about ~$6-7 and the flowers were $0.50 for about 10 buds. So in total, less than $20!

they look great!! so you didn’t cover the back of the letter w/ flowers, just the front + sides? i’m going to start making mine soon, and i didn’t know if i should do the whole letter or just the part that “shows.” i don’t want a breeze to pick up and have a plain cardboard back showing.
