I Have A Lot of People to Thank

Make that over 250,000 people, to be a little more precise.

You see, while all of those people were in their cars a few hours earlier, making their way into Pittsburgh to form that massive crowd, I got held up in the traffic and was running late for work. The date was February 7, 2006, and the occasion was a celebratory parade in honor of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Super Bowl victory.

Now, as excited as I was that my favorite team was, well, so awesome, I was a little annoyed that all of the hoopla was making me late. Lucky for me, I wasn’t the only one running late that morning.

When I reached my parking lot, I got in line to catch the shuttle bus that drops me off in front of my building. The bus came, I got on and someone sat next to me. My first thought was “please don’t talk to me,” as my experience with bus talkers usually includes awkward conversations. But, of course, he talked to me. It was all small talk. I replied to be polite, but the conversation continued on a little longer. We discovered we worked in the same building and continued chatting as we walked inside and got on the elevator. Before the doors opened at his floor, sweet, confident Mr. Deviled Egg asked me for a date and we exchanged contact information. I guess you could say the rest is history.

So thanks goes to all of these people for making both me and Mr. Deviled Egg late for work that day, and thanks to the Steelers for giving them all a reason to make me late ;). And of course, I have to thank the man upstairs, too. I’m still a little in awe by how things worked together that day to allow for our chance encounter on a bus. That day was filled with out-of-the-ordinary occurrences, which resulted in a completely extraordinary experience for us. I like to think that it means we are meant to be!

I love hearing about how couples met. What’s your story?

I was randomly roomed with a girl in the dorms in college. We quickly became good friends and lived together for 4 years. When I married her brother she was my Matron of Honor. Its kind of cool to end up related to your best friend.

That is such a sweet, beautiful and amazing story! I love when serendipitious encounters lead to lasting love. It just reminds me that anything is possible….

I met my FI through our mutual friend Paul at Paul’s KY Derby party. FI had “forgotten” to buy a plane ticket home to Denver (he was working on a project in St. Louis at the time). Paul encouraged him to come to the party and FI made the 6 hour drive. The day of the Derby, we were seperated from our friends; it immediately started pouring and he picked me up and kissed me. I was shocked, and the next day we decided to date long distance. 3 years later we were engaged. Of course Paul will be standing up in our wedding:)

A love brought together by the Steelers? That is glorious! I also love that you were on a “bus.” Jerome Bettis would be so proud :)

My fiance and I met at work - proof that office romances can work!

I love your story! Although, being from Cincinnati, I cannot support the Steelers victory parade =)

I was laying out at our apartment complex pool with a girlfriend. My FH came up and asked us if we’d seen his runway dog……If she wasn’t 100 lbs of slobbery mess, we’d have that pooch as the flower girl!

I love hearing these stories too :D And proposal stories are always good. <– hopeless romantic

My FH worked in the convenience store on campus and I happen to have an addiction to gobstoppers. He thought I was pretty, so one night, he looked me up on facebook.

@CJ2009: That is hilarious!!

Met my FI on MySpace. We went to the same university and he was looking for a new friend/booty call. I turned out to be much more than he anticipated :) Oh the digital age…

I was doing some acting exercises with an amateur theater group in college when he walked in late. I thought he was kind of awkward and nerdy looking, but he caught my attention later in the evening by making a Star Wars quote. I made an excited comment and sparked his interest.

He found my room through Facebook (Stalkerbook?) later that night and came by to chat. Our friendship and soon our relationship took off quickly from there, and has been founded on all kinds of deliciously geeky things.

What a great story! I almost didn’t meet FH because I missed the auditions for a musical show that a community theatre group was doing, and I threw away the director’s phone number. A while later I thought better of it (I just SENSED I should have called) and rummaged in my bedroom bin…hoorah for mothers who don’t empty your bin too often, because the number was still there! I called up, joined, and later met FH, who was the director’s housemate.

My FH and I actually grew up in the same community since we were toddlers. He was a class ahead of me, but my first memories of him are from 7th grade jazz band and the fall musical where he played Frankenstein’s monster! He remembers me from then, also, saying that’s when he first thought we’d be together. Didn’t start dating until I was 17 and he was 18 (after he’d dated one of my friends and I dated one of his!). Been together nearly 6 years now and counting!
