Swatch Card

October 23rd, 2008 @ 5:29 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

We’ve picked out our colors, and now that I am pretty deep into buying silk flowers, gathering supplies for our invitations and beginning the search for bridesmaid’s dresses, I thought I would share with you my color swatch sheet, an easy to make tool for helping me keep our colors consistent throughout our purchases. I keep this sheet in my wedding planning binder and it is loaded with swatches of color chips, fabric from my dress, ribbons, lace and a sample of an ingredient I’m planning on using in our centerpieces.

The color chips at the top are cut out of paint chips. You can pick some up (for free!) at The Home Depot. I used the closest match to our original color palette. In the two bags in the middle, I have fabric swatches from my dress and some split peas, which I’m planning on using in our centerpieces. I like how I can open and reseal the bag if I need to take out my fabric swatch to better compare colors.

The bottom row includes a few petals from a flower I purchased, a lace sample that I like and would like to incorporate somewhere, and a few cuts of ribbon that complement our palette.

I then cut smaller pieces of the paint chips and the ribbons to make a purse-sized swatch card. I mounted the pieces on a 3″x5″ index card and inserted it into a clear plastic bag.

This card really comes in handy when I’m out shopping for supplies.

How do you keep all your wedding colors in check?

I definitely could have used something like this a few times throughout the process, but I didn’t stick to much to “colors” so it wasn’t a huge deal for me. I like the idea of a purse-sized version of shopping trips though…I kind of want to make something like this for home decorating :)

Your palette looks very similar to mine. Love the idea. Also, the bridesmaid dresses I am deciding between are a Victorian lilac and a moss green from davids bridal. I’d suggest looking at those colors.
Can’t wait to see the rest of your planning now.

This is a great idea! It can help a lot when you are out and see something that might work out. I hate having to come back with a swatch or taking it to see it it matches.

I kept paint chips, envelope samples from MyGatsby, and a swatch from the bridesmaids’ dress in my wallet. They fit right in to a credit card slot.
