Baby, I Got Your Number

And it’s chocolate!

For our favors, I will be making chocolate numbers with candy molds I purchased from One Stop Candle. So, why numbers for a wedding favor? These numbers will also serve double duty as part of the escort cards. When each person goes into the reception hall, they will find their name and be seated at their table, indicated by the number spelled out in chocolate. Directional and delicious!

While I’ve seen escort and place cards made of chocolate, I’ve never seen chocolate numbers used as part of an escort card (and believe me, I did some mad Googling to find anything close). I think I may have truly come up with an original idea on this one!

Not counting the head table, our reception will have a maximum of 25 tables. With eight people seated at each, here’s the breakdown of how many chocolate numbers I’ll need to make:

1s = 104 (Tables 1, 10-19 and 21)
2s = 72 (Tables 2, 12 and 20 - 25)
3s = 24 (Tables 3, 13 and 23)
4s = 24 (Tables 4, 14 and 24)
5s = 24 (Tables 5, 15 and 25)
6s = 24 (Tables 6 and 16)
7s = 16 (Tables 7 and 17)
8s = 16 (Tables 8 and 18)
9s = 16 (Tables 9 and 19)
0s = 16 (Tables 10 and 20)

It takes about 20 minutes in the fridge for the chocolate to harden in the molds. I purchased three sets of the molds to help speed up the process, but even so, making all the numbers will be a little time consuming. I do, however, like the fact that we can personalize the chocolates by using a sugar-free variety for the diabetic guests.

Now, I have to get busy and come up with a way to package these babies.

Do you have any ideas on how we should present our chocolate escort numbers to our guests?

My first thought is in a clear plastic bag with a small bow holding it together and tied through the tag with the guest’s name…what a unique idea, who doesn’t like chocolate.

Genius! Yum, I would eat my escort card before I get to the table! :o)

I second slicey up there. Alternately, you could do a small favor box with a clear lid. Do you have any kids coming to your wedding? If so, maybe consider making chocolate lollipops for the kids- all you would need to do is add a lollipop stick as the chocolate begins to harden (after about 5 minutes in the fridge). That would save your tablecloths from chocolate fingers, and be fun for the kiddies!

Oh my gosh, what a fabulous idea!!! I was thinking of making cookies for folks, with our monogram on them, and just a tag indicating the table but now–to think, I could put the number ON the cookie! I’m so excited! (I know I may seem a little overly excited here, but it’s genuine, I’m not being sarcastic!)

For packaging, I agree with slicey, you could cover the chocolate part with a plastic bag secured with a bow, then, if you put the numbers on a stick (a choco-pop!), you could stick them all in a prettily decorated piece of floral foam or something.
Good luck, I can’t wait to see them in action!

what a fantastic idea!! I smell new trend…. :D You should patent it!

I would suggest instead of a bag, which could get saggy and messy looking, find flat, clear plastic boxes to put the numbers in. papermart.com might have something like this. This way it’s more like chocolate in a box, and they’ll lie flat on the escort card table. You could tie an organza ribbon around it like a gift, and the ribbon could be your wedding colors. And a little tag that says thank you…!

Just make sure that numbers don’t get in the right order- ie if someone is at table 12, but the 1 and 2 get mixed up, they’ll try to sit at table 21.

Perhaps the favor box with clear lid- that way you could use a bit of melted chocolate to hold the numbers in place on the bottom of the box?

That is a great idea! I can’t wait to see your results.

I think the box (or other flat packaging) could be super cute and less mix-up prone than a bag.

What a great idea! I did a lot of chocolate stuff too - oh, the joys of jumping up every twenty minutes to shake them out of the mold and pour in the new batch. Luckily you have lots of time. I also did mine months before. My wedding is next week (eek) but my favours were all done by September. Our invites were chocolate and so are the favours…it’s a ton of work but it’s worth it!

I love this idea! If you are worried about the numbers getting mixed up in a little baggie you could also repeat the number next to the guest’s name on the tag (i.e. Emily Pineapple -12).
So cute!

I think this is a great idea! Also as a diabetic I LOVE that you’re making sugar-free ones too :)
