Must Take Photos

October 23rd, 2008 @ 4:35 pm by Mrs. Sushi

Many brides have a long list of “must take” photos for their photographer. I think when you’re paying a photographer thousands of dollars for their expertise in shooting weddings, a lot of shots should be common sense for them. Now, if they ask for a list, that’s a different story. I also believe that you are paying for your vendor’s experience, and that a long list may deteriorate the artist’s creativity. But if you’ve seen a photo you are inspired by, I think that’s a different story. Rather than giving our photographer a shot list with specific poses, I plan on providing some general thoughts on our ”must take photos”.

First sight: I plan on seeing Mr. Sushi before we officially wed and would like to capture our “first meeting”.

Fun group photos! Instead of everyone just standing on the stairs of the church.

Group shot of the WHOLE wedding, guests and all! Since we’re having a small wedding, I would like to have a group photo with everyone in attendance. Great for thank you cards later!

KIDDIES! How cute are kids?! With our guest list being itty bitty, we don’t have many children attending our wedding, but there will be one or two.

I absolutely love this, German and Japanese garb.

I only have one more request for our “must take” photos… but it’s a biggie and can be broken down into subtopics…

DETAILS!

Invitations. I worked sooo hard on these, there better be a good photo of them! :)

Venue. We picked our venue because it is beautiful; I want to reflect that in our wedding photos.

I like your way to see things.
I guess on our must list are having pictures with our families, pictures together. one of when we first see each other (before ceremony), one with everyone here, and then fun candid shots from the evening.

The first time that my FI sees me walking down the aisle and the decorations because I have to buy/rent/DIY everything. I had a very specific picture in my mind of what I want the art gallery to look like, so I want lots of pics.

The handprints in the sand are great. The little boy peeing reminded me that a little boy did that at my uncle’s wedding during the toast. Only a few of us saw but the best part is that he walked around the corner of the tent with his pants still down. We were laughing so loud, which was really bad since the BM was saying his toast and talking about how my grandma was watching over us all from heaven. Hahaha bad but so funny.

We gave our photographer no guidance, instructions, or shot lists at all, and we got everything you mentioned. Really, that’s what we wanted from all our vendors: here’s a check, now do your thing.

How did they get all of those chairs in the woods in that 3rd photo? Way to realize that you won’t get “exactly” these shots. I wish I had given my photog more instruction concerning the “detail” shots I was looking for.
