A Driving Dilemma…

October 23rd, 2008 @ 1:21 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

I’ve been a good bride. I booked everything within a month of being engaged. Well, almost everything.

I still haven’t booked the limo(s). I know, I know…today is exactly 7 months until the big day, and I haven’t booked or looked much into the transportation yet.

Mr. Ballet Flat and I are on a budget, and we don’t exactly know how many limos to rent and what kinds of limos to rent, how long to rent them. We have SO many questions, and we don’t want to waste money. On top of that, I’ve read bad reviews on almost EVERY limo company in New Orleans on the local Knot boards.

I feel like the days keep passing by and this little problem won’t get solved. However, I know it won’t be resolved until we do something. Man, oh man!

How did you find a reliable transportation company for your wedding? If you are from NOLA, did you receive good service from a certain company?

Mr. Pineapple and I were able to hoof it from our venue, but if we hadn’t I would have looked into renting a vintage car, i think that is so cool. Since you are on a strict budget how about just getting one limo for the two of you (and your photographers)? I don’t think that a limo for the entire wedding party is at all a necessity.

at my 1st wedding I didn’t have a limo - we rented a convertable to take us across the street from the hotel to the beach ceremony and back again.

I have no need for transportation for my 2nd wedding because the ceremony & reception are on different days in different States LOL.

My friend rented a streched Hummer limo for them & the wedding party. It worked great.

We asked our reception site - they give us a list of options! We called them and picked the nicest/cheapest one :)

PS Our florist also recommended transportation options - so if your reception site doesn’t have any idea you could try asking other vendors like florist, photographer, etc. Good luck!

I saw an idea a while back, I forget if it was here or on a Knot board or where. But if you want a vintage car, I heard someone suggest going to a car show or posting a listing on craig’s list asking if a local vintage car owner would want to lend their services and play driver for you. Most of these people love showing off their cars so would probably be happy to do it for a cheap price. If you need transportation for your whole wedding party this probably wouldn’t work, but if it’s just you and the hubbie it might.

my wedding is also 7 months away from today!! woot woot (but by does time fly)… we went with a trolley service– I am from Ohio and had to rent from a Michigan company–because of our large wedding party (14), we needed a lot of space! The price for larger limos substantially jumps when you go past 12 peeps– and besides, trolleys are super cute!

If you are on a tight budget and your whole bridal party plus you and the groom is less than 8 people, then you are ok with just 1 limo. If you are more than 8, then I suggest you getting a smaller Towncar or a vintage car and the rest of your wedding party sits in the limo. I like this idea because I think it’s important for you and the groom to have some privacy after the wedding ceremony as a brand new married couple, enroute to your next scheduled item (most likely, photos). Just try calling a few limo companies, and soon you’ll find that they all have similar packages, like 4 hours or 6 hours. My wedding starts at 1:30 so the limo has to come to my house at 1 drive us to the church, then drive us to the photo place, then drop us off at the reception location before dinner. All in all I’ll need them for about 4 to 5 hours. I really want 2 limos but if it’s out of our budget, then I’ll settle for a limo and a towncar. Good luck!

We rented a limo for our entire bridal party (11 total) and it was a BLAST! The 25 minute drive from the ceremony to the reception, having drinks and spending time with your closest friends and family is invaluable. We felt like we would have plenty of alone time later that night, so we never even considered going in the limo alone.
However, I will add that we were also disappointed with our limo service. The driver was rude, they didn’t have the champagne that I requested and paid more for, and they overbooked so we had to arrive at the reception 30 minutes earlier than planned. I also have heard many postivie comments about limo companies, which is sad….

What about not using a limo? Could you have some members of the family or ushers drive larger cars?

We have the same wedding day, yippy! And don’t worry, I don’t have my transportation booked yet either… In fact, I don’t have my florist or more importantly my dress yet either so you’re way ahead of me!!! :)

I’m in New Orleans and just thinking about limos for our October wedding. And by October I mean Halloween — a date which we’re happy with, but which has proven… challenging in terms of reservations! I contacted one company today for a quote. We have the ceremony and reception at the same place (Audubon Tea Room, squee!) but of course the hotel is downtown and we have to get everybody uptown — apparently we are supposed to run shuttles for guests? Anyway. I’ll be curious to see what the rates are.

I’m pretty new around here, and am happy to find a NOLA bride featured! Yay!

(…new, which is why I’m randomly replying to three-month-old posts without paying any attention to doing so. Sorry!)

@SarahScott: Yay to another NOLA bride! GL finding shuttles :). I’m getting my limos through American Luxury Limos, since they were most recommended by brides on the Knot! :)
