About Mrs. Champagne

Snowy Inspiration

October 23rd, 2008 @ 3:26 pm by Mrs. Champagne

So Champ has been pretty “whatever” about the whole wedding planning process, but when it came to our first wedding day meeting he was adamant that we wait until the ceremony to see each other. I’ve seen several different opinions on this subject, and I was willing to go either way. On one hand, we could get some wonderful photo opportunities if we met before the wedding, but on the other hand I know Champ really loves the element of surprise and this would be no exception.

Unfortunately most of the inspirational photos I’ve collected along the way have been taken during the daytime and our wedding ceremony doesn’t even start until after 6. Luckily, my cousin who is also a BM has spent some time as a wedding photographer, and she happens to be the one who took our STD photo at my brother’s wedding. So Champ and I have decided that instead of jetting out right away for our honeymoon (location unbeknownst to me until departure!) we’ll stick around for some photos with the best natural backdrop we could ask for… the Rocky Mountains!

Because we’ll have the time to experiment with our surroundings, I’ve collected some of my favorite winter wedding photos for inspiration. Have any to add? Please share!

i’m so jealous! what i wouldn’t give to have snow pictures! you will look amazing. incidentally, we are also wanting to wait until the ceremony to see each other. so we have to find a way to take couple pictures during the day as our time is limited.

Beautiful! I’d love to have a TTD in the snow, but I’d probably be waiting years for enough snow to be on the ground here. Plus I despise cold weather, so I’d probably be frozen after one picture, haha.

Oooh. That’s almost pretty enough to make me forget how cold snow is! I’m freaking out now, and it’s only dropping into the 40’s.

I don’t know why the image popped into my head, but now I can’t stop imagining you two warming your hands over a single votive in the middle of a field of snow.

I wanted a winter wedding so badly… I’m jealous! My FI and I both, however, have winter birthdays so we opted for a different season. I think we may to our e-pics in the winter, so thanks for some inspiration pics!! :)

As for your question about seeing each other, my Mom is very serious about us not seeing each other before the ceremony. I think, given our situation (6PM ceremony and reception to follow immediately in the same location), it would make for more time than just the cocktail hour for pictures. But I know our photographer can get all the shots we want. We may consider a day after shoot too though.

Here in Vermont we see quite a few weddings take place in the winter. The scenery is so beautiful and the snow just gives it that much more of a dreamy feel to such a special day, and it just matches with the bride’s dress!

I love the idea because you won’t feel rushed, can spend more time with guests, and you can spend more time get some fabulous pictures of you and Champ!

I really didn’t want to see my fiance before the ceremony, because I wanted “that look” that the groom gets when he sees his bride at the end of the aisle. However, I came to the realization that if we didn’t see each other before, the rest of our day would go like this:
See each other at ceremony.
Take all the family portraits right after the ceremony while other guests go to cocktail hour.
Once portraits are done, run around trying to get some good bride/groom and bridal party shots during the rest of the cocktail hour.
Miss entire cocktail hour.
Then, when all of guests are eating dinner during the reception, go around and talk to all of them.

My recently married friend suggested the following, which I’m doing:

See each other before the ceremony- including a staged “meeting” with lots of pictures, so we still have that “first look” moment.
Get all bride/groom and bridal party shots before ceremony.
Spend about 20 minutes after the ceremony taking family portraits.
Go to most of the cocktail hour, where we will go around and greet all of the guests and thank them for coming.
During dinner, we’ll eat first and then instead of visiting all of the tables while they eat (since we already greeted all the guests at the cocktail hour), we’ll slip out for about 15 minutes and get a few relaxed pictures of the two of us!

I really didn’t want to see him before hand, but I TRULY LOVE pictures and I think this is the best way for us to get some great shots!

LOVE these photos! They look so clean and elegant! And the brides don’t look like they’re freezin’ their tooshies off at all. :o) Makes me kinda wish I was getting married in a snowy area instead of Hawaii. Beautiful!

Totally am enjoying the snow angel pix!
