We’re Going To DISNEY WORLD!!!

October 24th, 2008 @ 4:46 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

You know, it was kind of hard to choose a place to go for our honeymoon. We were thinking, well, NYC, Niagara Falls, Cruise in the Caribbean…sigh…but none of them REALLY appealed to our liking.

I wanted Disney World… bad. (I’m such a Mickey dork!)

Mr. Ballet Flat knew that I LOVE Disney, but he also didn’t see a family theme park as a romantic getaway for us. However, Mr. Ballet Flat loves thrill rides, so we decided on Orlando for our honeymoon. I say Orlando, because we are actually going to Disney World and Universal/Islands of Adventure.

One thing we found rather difficult was finding lodging for our honeymoon that would be budget friendly and couple friendly, of course. Disney on-site was expensive, if we wanted to TRY to avoid kids screaming down the halls. Places off-site weren’t that cheap either. So, I did a little searching and thought to look into vacation home rentals.

I read so many great things on Disney boards about renting a home for a family, but I was afraid, once again, of the price. However, home rentals are WAY budget friendly!!

We ended up booking a 4 bedroom/3 bath house with a private pool and jacuzzi. It has a normal kitchen as well, with pots and pans, if we feel like cooking one night and staying in. According to the maps, it’s 10 minutes from the Disney gates!! We’re really excited! Yes, it’s excessive, but we knew there would be privacy there! PLUS, it’s only $149/night to stay in this huge house. Here’s a picture of a similar house we went with. They all look the same in the neighborhood.

I’m so excited about this road trip with Mr. Ballet Flat! It will be so much fun to experience Disney in a different way than with our families! :)

How did you and your fiance decide on the honeymoon location?

We’re going to Disney for our honeymoon too, but pairing it with a Disney cruise. 4 days at the parks and 3 days at sea! :) We chose Disney because it was $4,000 cheaper than the other honeymoon we were considering (a Sandals resort in St. Lucia). It’s still not cheap by any means, but I think we do get value for the money.

I’ve never been to Disney, but it sounds fun! Mr. DE and I have no clue where we are going on our honeymoon. It’s such a big decision!

What a great idea. You can also hit a grocery store for non-restaurant meals if you want (I like to cook and I get sick of eating on the road after a while).

We don’t know where we’re going, yet. It’s the one place I’m not willing to be practical, because you only get one honeymoon and I want it to be romantic. I loved Mrs. Avocado’s Relaximoon — so perfect after the stress of wedding planning. On the other hand, riding a four-wheeler seems like a lot of fun too.

Last year I went to Orlando with a girlfriend and our kids and we had a blast! I have learned all about a site for discount travel and how to get the most out of hotwire and priceline. called http://www.biddingfortravel.com It’s just a forum where people put in their winning bids and the location, star level, and what hotel they got. They have it broken down and you can almost pick (if you bid according to some advice there) the hotel…and get a huge discount!

We got accomodations at Omni Championsgate in Orlando for 115/night. Normally it’s double that. Was gorgeous!

If you want good orlando resorts and think a 5 star is way out of your price range, I might suggest learning about that site and trying their recommendations.

It’s worked well for me several times.

And as a single mom who has a good job, but lets face it.. Paying for a four or five star resort for five days is alot of smackeroos. I couldn’t have afforded it otherwise.

We did Disney too! I’d never been there and always wanted to go. It is very honeymoon friendly. Even It’s a Small World seems more romantic when you are a newlywed.

I did DisneyWorld after I graduated from LSU as a present. I went only with my boyfriend during Christmas. It was so magical. We stayed at the Best Western that is located on Disney property. Check out mousesavers.com

vrbo.com is a good resource for international travel, too. My BIL has had great success renting private houses through them all around Asia.

If you didn’t buy your park tickets yet undercovertourist.com has great discounts on all the parks in the Orlando area! I bought my tickets from that site over the summer and the prices couldn’t be beat!

The fiance and I are going to DisneyWorld too. The issue of romance also did come up, but we decided to stay at Disney resorts because they provide shuttles to each park. We didn’t want to have to drive, because we’re moving the week after the honeymoon and I think one road trip in two weeks is more than enough.
Sounds like you got a great deal though. I’m jealous.

@Miss Cheese: The cooking thing is totally what I’m thinking. :) I like to cook too!
@bellenga: I love Priceline for that very reason. We take mini vacays and lodge with priceline’s bidding methods!
@Desiree: I def have a subscription to Mousesavers. They helped me find the best ticket prices too!@Erin: Check out vrbo.com. :)

What a great idea! Just a travel tip: I’ve always gotten cheap car rentals (>$16) on Priceline.

Whoa! Are you staying in Celebration?!? That place is sooo neat!! It feels like you are in Beaver Cleaver’s neighborhood. Everything looks perfect!

@missteaberry: No…that’s just a stereotypical house in the neighborhood. I didn’t want to post the link to the exact house since this is, after all, the internet. Just keeping things safe :)

I have actually been on that site all day looking at vacation rentals in Europe.
I love that site. I have already used it to rented a house where I am getting married in to get ready in. It was cheaper for me to rent a house for all my bridal party than it was a bunch of hotel rooms.
