About Mrs. Cookie

I Blame It on the Dirty Martini

October 27th, 2008 @ 3:59 pm by Mrs. Cookie

When I heard my cell ring and the caller ID said “Mr. Cookie”, I knew something was up. After all, the boys had already left our house for the baseball game, and we had said our goodbyes for the evening. It was really the tone in Mr. Cookie’s voice that gave me a hunch that he had a trick up his sleeve.

Per Mr. Cookie’s instructions, I went out to the garage and looked in the cooler. In it were two bottles of champagne, a dozen roses, and a card that read, ” Miss Cookie, Have fun tonight. Love, Mr. Cookie and his groomsmen.” And with that, the bachelorette frivolity began.

We popped open the bubbly and toasted to the evening. After a glass of champagne (okay, maybe like three glasses) and a quick change of clothes, we were off to Downtown Denver via the light rail—our designated driver for the evening.

My MOH and I. I was her maid of honor and she was mine.

I must backtrack for a moment. This entire evening was a complete surprise to me. My bridesmaids were plotting and scheming behind my back for months. They wouldn’t even give me a clue! However, I had complete faith and trust that the night would unfold into the best bachelorette party, and it did!

The first stop of the evening was The Oceanaire. Being land locked here in Colorado, I am a sucker for seafood being flown in fresh every day, especially mussels. YUMMY! I love me some good mussels! At The Oceanaire we were spoiled. Not only was the service top notch, but the food was superb.

This is the couple whose wedding brought Mr. Cookie and I together. We owe you guys, BIG TIME!

At the restaurant we bumped into the boys. As many of our closest friends don’t live in Colorado, we waited until two days before the wedding to party-hearty on the same evening. The boys had also made a reservation at The Oceanaire in order to drop off our share of the transportation for the evening…

… but before we left, we had one more drink before we were off to our next undisclosed location.

That transportation the boys dropped off for us was a limo. He he!

Within a matter of minutes we were at our final stop for the evening, Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, that was showing Cirque du Ole! The variety show was a little bit Latin, a little bit campy, a little bit burlesque, and a hint of magic, hosted by the effervescent Kim Franco and Juan Dorito.

About ten minutes into the performance, Ms. Franco, who informed us she was an all Irish on top and Latin lover in the bedroom, decided it was time for the audience to salsa along with her. I was ALL over salsa-ing!

The next act was the blind magician, and he needed an assistant. It was all a set-up I tell you, because somehow the magician knew it was my bachelorette party. Ironically, I was chosen as his assistant. He asked me to pick a card, any card. Then, I was instructed to stick my card back into the card deck. Sshhh! It was the Jack of Spades.

Abracadabra
…and voilà! Magically the Jack of Spades appeared. How ever did he see my card?

By far the most hilarious act of the evening was Juan Dorito singing a remixed version of Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy.” Oh, Juan you really were too sexy for your guitar. I laughed so hard, my face hurt!

My bachelorette party was an absolute blast. My lovely friends and bridesmaids planned a perfect evening. But alas, it ended all too soon because of this, a dirty martini. It did me in. After a quick light rail ride later, I was out cold in my bed and slightly sick to my stomach—nothing a few saltines and vitamin water couldn’t alleviate the following morning. But truly, it was the best bachelorette party I could have asked for!

What did you do for your bachelorette party?
