The Lady Champs: What to Wear

There are so many decisions a bride has to make. For some brides, the bridesmaid dress sets the tone for the wedding. For me, it was sort of a simple decision. I knew I wanted black and something that had an elegant feel. I have six bridesmaids with VERY different style and body types. Not to mention, there will be two bridesmaids who are new mothers, and it’s tough for them to judge what will look the best.

I am a firm believer that when women feel good about themselves, they look better in pictures. When choosing The Lady Champs’ attire, I had to keep this in mind.

The top contenders:

#1: The Romantic
Dessy Style 2746

dessy.jpg

#2: The Classic
After Six Style 6544

#3: The Sexaay
Dessy Style 2739

champ3.jpg

#4: The Pretty Woman (Champ loves that this looks like the dress Julia Roberts wore) Belsoie Style# L1021

Which dress do you think will fit all body types, but still is elegant and perfect for a winter wedding?

absolutely #1!! It’s will draw attention upward (so the new mummies don’t feel everyone is looking at their new hips) and the shape is wonderfully flattering for every body!

I’d say the ruching of the romantic would make it most flattering, but the fabric looks very fluid, which hits EVERY flaw of a woman’s hips/booty. From working with the J. Crew Sophia, the neckline of the sexaaaay works for the big and small busted - it’s what most of my brides chose for themselves.

On that note, why not let them pick from those?

Here are my thoughts, in list form:
#1: GORGEOUS!!
#2: Definitely a classic look. But I dunno…the fabric looks a little less forgiving…I can see crease lines forming in the lap during dinner. Still, you won’t go wrong with this.
#3: Lovely, but the model weighs about 2 pounds, and I worry that the fabric in the middle would right right above the belly and accentuate any leftover baby padding.
#4: My second fave, after #1. And it’s a timeless look - you can find a dress like that in any decade!

You’re such a nice bride. :)

#1! it’s beautiful!

side note: as a new mama, my current musthaves for this upcoming holiday season’s dresses are any that highlight my shoulders and my newly ample bosom. the first dress would be an instant pick for me. extra points for the flattering and concealing detailing in the mid-section. your new mama friends will love you (even more!) for this being an option!

I agree with all the wanting to show the new goods, and the classic-ness of number one, but just for securitys sake (coming from a well endowed gal) I like number 4, those side straps make a world of difference. You don’t have to hoist up your strapless dress all night, because well, gravity wins 99% of the time.

#1 will be the most flattering for a range of body types - but I share KateJ’s concern about strapless styles. Neither my sis or BFF are comfortable with them, for example. Sis and I are both well-endowed, and I can wear them without a problem, but for some reason they are incredibly unflattering on her. Check with your BMs, or give them the option of adding straps. (After all, I don’t believe nursing bras come in strapless ;) )

It’s hard to make out the details of #4 - but portrait collars are very flattering.

Do your ladies have to match? Those choices are all similar enough that having each lady pick the one she loves the most would still make for a really lovely group!

@KateJ: I think Kate is on to something. Those new mamas are also probably going to have pretty new chests. I think straps will come in handy in lugging around the new weight being a mom often entails.

I agree with the concerns about strapless dresses. I’m rather well-endowed and I tend to hate strapless styles in form fitting materials.

I was so excited because I thought these had pockets! I LOVE pockets in a dress.

I love #4, it looks perfect for a winter wedding, and comfortable! As a girl who was the envy of all of my friends prom shopping, because I can look great in pretty much anything … the sweetheart top of #1 doesn’t work for me at all, it’s really unflattering for my moderately small chest.
One and four seem to be the most popular and a similar fabric, you could let your girls pick :)

i voted for #1 because i think the gathering makes it flattering on everyone and less clingy (otherwise i would have voted #3). of course this dress would be my choice IF everyone is cool with strapless.

i also think #4 will be extremely flattering on most girls (unless you have some who are sensitive about being short… it’ll make them look even shorter in comparison to any taller girls with the same dress)

I was in a wedding recently and wore #1 and it was universally flattering. Everyone felt comfortable and looked lovely. I think it would be a safe choice. However, I do think #4 is stunning and different.

I was not able to see the first three so I could only view number 4…which I loved.

I think that black is a great idea. I’m gonna have them do the LBD and wear whatever they want to wear as long as 1)it is knee length or barely above and 2)it is black and 3)it’s all made of same fabric that I pick out.

I just want them to either use something they already have, or buy something they definitely will wear again and flatter their body type. I’m giving them some purses, and a matching wrap to add in a bit of color (the wrap and flower on purse). Pearl earrings.

Classic and simple and have them look their best.

Please try to see if you can repost the other 3. I really did like #4 though. Very pretty. I just know however, I wouldn’t use a floor length dress very much.

When we were thinking of doing a more formal wedding I was leaning towards the Dessy one you have listed. Recently I saw this one from Coldwater Creek of all places that I would have also loved:

@HistoryBride: oh you are so lucky to look good in almost everything! I have the opposite problem- an empire waist? terrrrible on me!
@Miss Cheese: I love pockets too!
@bellenga: awww man I don’t know why we can’t see the first three images, but I’m on it.
@gg+sb: thanks for the suggestion! What a cute dress

I like #4 because it’s beautiful and strays a bit from the strapless look. #1 is classy as well! Why do you have such great taste? It makes it so hard to choose. :)

Hey guys (and Miss Champ), sorry about the first three images not showing up :-(. We have to download the images from Flickr and host them on our own servers… doing that now!!

you shouldn’t choose a strapless dress because bigger boobs means MORE SUPPORT NEEDED! and strapless dresses can’t hide a supportive bra strap.

#1 or #3: both could easily be worn again at either the full length or shortened.

#2: square necklines are difficult for many women to pull off

#4: off the shoulder is hard to dance in!

I would say #4 since it is classic and will look good on just about anyone flat chested or busty. Otherwise I would just let them choose any of these since they are similar enough and that way you can be sure they will pick something that will truly be comfortable for them and not a dress that while pretty, may not be something they feel comfortable ever wearing again.

I really like the look of #1 and #4. But recently I wore a dress similar to #4, and with straps like that I had still had to wear a strapless bra. And I felt like the dress was hard to move in, with the straps being on the side of your arms. Since I have a big chest the support from the straps were nice, but they mostly only pushed my chest out more. I just looked at the back of #4 and it’s really low and doesn’t look like it would allow for a bra at all. Anyway, just two cents from someone who is always worried about chest support.

Ok. Thanks Miss C! I now officially change my vote to numero uno. The Romantic. I think it will be best forgiving to those with less than six pack abs. :)

Beautiful choices, all! But why not let each lady choose the dress she feels the best in? That way, those who want more support may have it, and those who want to rock the Romantic or the Sexaaay can do so. (Full disclosure: I’m letting my 4 BMs choose any floor-length black dress they prefer, so I’m obviously a fan of this idea!)

Looking back at the dress you chose for yourself, I think #1 would look the best

Just wanted to say thank you for posting a link back to my site, very kind of you!

PS - I like #1 the best too, but I also agree that when the ladies wear their own dresses and different styles it can look just as good (if not better) and they seem to feel even more confident. I’ve seen that trend increase at my own weddings a lot in the past couple of years.
