Please Help Us Pick A Monogram

October 27th, 2008 @ 11:26 am by Mrs. Blush

I started creating monogram designs on Photoshop using Ms. Radish’s wonderful post as well as free brush tools I found online. However, I had such a good time with them that I ended up with 30+ designs. I want to use the monogram on our invitation envelope flaps, programs, menus, napkins (if we have any), photo booth pictures, and pretty much anything else that can be adorned with a monogram.

But, I need your help!! The 30+ designs have been narrowed down with the help of my bridesmaids, my FSIL and Mr. Blush. :)

I would intermix #1 & #5. But I would actually remove the date from #5 and just use it as the monogram. I think #1 would look fantastic on the invitation flaps and the programs, and you could use #5 for the menu and napkins, or even etch them in votive holders, or matchboxes if you decide to do those.

I was going to say #1 and #5 too :) Maybe #1 for pre-wedding and ceremony stuff, then #5 for the reception (since technically you aren’t supposed to use your new monogram until after the ceremony- but I say whatever you want!)

I agree with Vanessa, you can pick two and use them for different things. My favorite is #1, but I think it would also be great if you had a separate “monogram only”.

I luuuuuuurve number 5!!! So elegant, simple, timeless, chic, gorge…and with a touch of retro.

#1 & #5 are my favorites. i voted for 5 because i feel like you could use this one for anything you want after the wedding too. #1 wouldn’t be as useful in the future and i love the idea of using your wedding monogram for the rest of your lives : )

I love # 5 - so art deco! And I would leave the date on, actually. I like # 1 as well, but I don’t know that I would mix them as others have suggested as the styles seem to be from very different time periods - 1920s art deco and… well, something else.

No. 6 is cute too - very Jane Austin book plate-ish!

I’d use 1 & 7 and maybe 5 too. Good point from Mrs. Tiramisu. I think that if you narrow it down to two or three… that you’ll be in perfect shape to have one on pre-ceremony items and 1 or 2 for reception decor.

Officially I voted for 8, because it’s my #1 favorite, but I also really liked 9 and 5.

I also did like 1, but I had to squint to actually see it. If you do decide to use that one, I recommend making it a little larger, if possible, so that the details can really be appreciated!

I liked 1 & 7! I like #1 for envelopes, programs, and photobooth pictures but #7 for any favor tags or napkins, maybe a runner.

1 and 5 are my favourites (I voted for 5). If it helps at all, I would say 1 is more traditional/romantic, whereas 5 is more modern/art deco.

I also agree that 5 is better without the date.

Also agree that you should choose 2 with similar styles and use them for different things. 5 is good for favors etc. 9 or 10 would be good as headers (e.g. on invitations, programs etc). 1 is a good all-rounder.

I think if it were me, I would use 1 for invitations, programs etc, and then use 5 (without date) at the actual reception. Maybe with a bit of editing to match the styles.

Hope that helps - great work on these by the way!

I like #5 because it is cleanest and will be the most forgiving to print. The others with complex filigree patterns are beautiful but might get muddled if they are not printed exactly perfectly.

I chose #1 because it has both names on it…..I like the borders around it.

5 and 9!

Five is very visually appealing and 9 is very unusual. Good work!

I like 1,5, 6…so I guess it depends on what kind of look you are going for. Vintage, modern, traditional, a mix?

I voted for #5, but I also like #8 because it is unique. #1 is also nice because it seems classic with your names. I guess it also would depend on what your overall look is.

Let us know what wins!

I love #1 and 7, but I don’t know if they will print well on everything with all the intricate lines!

#5 feels the most cohesive; the design and typography really complement each other. The frame on #1 is gorgeous, but I would experiment with other type styles. #5 is also much more versatile than #1 because of the smaller size. As other posters have said, there will undoubtedly be some applications where the detail work in #1 is lost (at small sizes), and that’s what makes it so beautiful!

I like 1 and 5. I like #1 where the names are written out because I don’t see that as often but #5 is my favorite for just the initials.

I love 2 — it’s so different. I’m also horribly jealous of your Photoshop skills (nevermind that you have the license to start with). Sigh. *very green*

I love #5, but since it has your “new” last initial in it I voted for #1 since you really shouldn’t use your new initials until after the wedding. If you could use it on reception stuff then go for #5, otherwise I vote #1.

AHH! I can’t believe you’re a bee!! I subscribed to weddingbee a while ago, but haven’t checked up recently until a friend saw your STD on my dresser and said, “…That looks really familiar…” :) You are so awesome, and your wedding is going to be so wonderful and beautiful!! :D

A monogram is composed of Initials ONLY. Number 1 is a LOGO.

Thank you all SOOSOO much for your votes and input!!!

As many of you have suggested- I am going to try to play with the fonts for #1, remove the date for #5 so we can use it for the reception but also after wedding things. I think I’m going to use 8 & 9 on something but I’m still not sure what! In addition, I totally agree on using the ones with “K” after the wedding! Maybe we can use 5 as a spotlight on the reception dancefloor??

Thank you again so much!! I will definitely update you all!!

xoxoxo
