Dance Lessons: A Worthy Investment

October 27th, 2008 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Pinot Noir

Before I get too carried away in the wedding recaps, I wanted to do a quick post about dance lessons! In July, Mr. PN and I started an 8-week dance class with The Manhattan Ballroom Society. These classes were a fun way to master some skills before the big day. Mr. PN and I had a great time in the introductory course. We learned the basics of the waltz, fox trot, and tango. The classes were pretty small (usually about 8-10 people) and we changed partners on occasion (good practice for dancing with others), but we also spent a lot of time dancing with our partners, too! Our instructor, Stephen Dane, was such a wonderful teacher that after we finished the class, we signed up for a few private lessons to focus on our first dance.

We had so much fun that we decided to sign up for the intermediate class in November. New classes are starting next week, and Beginning Ballroom is offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. For more information check out their website or call Stephen directly at (917) 734-4778.

That’s awesome - I hope you got your first dance on video? What a great way to spend some time together! Well, for a lot of couples, anyway… Mr Breezy grudgingly agreed to accompany me to a salsa class awhile ago but it turns out I like to lead so it didn’t turn out so well. ;-)

@Miss Sea Breeze: I lead a lot too… Mr. PN would say I’m kind of a control freak…

Mr. Blush and I have been looking for dance studios in the city- so happy you posted this Mrs. PN! Do you think we could manage a first dance with just the beginner lessons alone (w/o any private lessons)?? We realized that we don’t have much time!

Thanks in advance!!

I agree with the dance lesson suggestion We can’t wait for ours:)

I also wanted to respond to a comment you left for Miss Cheese. Were you in AmeriCorps? If so, where at? I was *NCCC Class IX in Denver…best year of my life!

You guys look so cute dancing together!

Mr. Taffy and I are having so much fun in our dance classes! Practicing at home is also a blast. We are about halfway through now, but I think we are going to to another round of classes because we love it so much! :)

@Miss Blush: If you pick a song that has a basic 6 count or 8 count (waltz or foxtrot) than the beginner ballroom is definetly enough! We picked a song that didn’t have a distinct beat which made it a lot more work! We found the Waltz to be the easist to learn and the beginner class includes a couple fun twirls and spins too!

@ErinMarieMack: I did AmeriCorps State in New Hampshire in 2002-2003. It was the most amazing and transformative year of my life too!

Your husband looks so dashing in these pictures! I’ll admit that I’d only seen men in kilts on TV (and it’s usually in jest), but he looks just dashing!
