Next Tuesday is a BIG day! It’s not only Election Day (woohoo!), it’s also the day we’re taking our engagement photos. Sadly, according to Weather.com, it’s also likely to be a rain day in Cambridge, Massachusetts:
Oh well. Mr. HC and I wanted photos that captured our beloved New England, and I guess we’re getting exactly what we wished for, capricious weather and all! No way are we going to let a little precipitation spoil our fun. And maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll even catch a rainbow.
Plus I love rain gear. Look at how adorable this couple looks smooching under their umbrella:

So being a long-time Boston resident, I am already well equipped with a pair of black Hunter boots (classic and chic) and a pair of polka-dotted Tamara Henriques Wellingtons.

Now, what I need is a sassy umbrella, like this one:
Except it’s $96 (!!!) and out of my price range. How about this darling Marimekko umbrella, which is a splurge at $40:
But I’m also digging the simple chic of this $65 umbrella, which is so little black dress:
Alright, who am I kidding? I’m not spending $65 on an umbrella that I’m promptly going to lose (because you know umbrellas run away—from me anyway). I think I’m going with this $27.95 number, which is simple navy on the outside and blue skies and white clouds on the inside:
Did it rain on your engagement photo or wedding day? Any tips on how to stay dry and happy when it’s wet and coooold?
How awesome would Wellies and cool umbrella be?!! OMG Im thinking of all the fantastic pictures now! On our E-pic day, it was 114 degrees outside and I was sweating like a pig. Its tough being lovey-dovey when you have sweat dripping from your nose. LOL. Good luck! Hope it turns out fab!
It drizzled on the day my husband and I took our engagement pics, and it turned out to be a blessing. The images turned out so romantic, and the light was filtered beautifully through the clouds, so we had no squinting, and really saturated images.
Our engagement shoot was about two weeks ago, it was pouring the morning of and sprinkling the entire time. Cloudy skies turned out to be just what we needed for our photos. Check them out here!
I think its GOING to rain our e-photo day (Saturday), so I’ll be watching this thread with great interest.
I love the idea of a cute umbrella and wellies! There are so many fun possibilities for adorable pictures (and potentially cool lighting) on rainy days!

I wish I knew how to post our wedding pictures. I had the boots and the umbrella and they made for THE BEST pictures of us.
I would LOVE to take our e-pics in the rain - Wellies and Umbrellas would be so cute! Alas, I live in Sunny Souther California so that is hard to come by. It would extra special b/c FH and my first date was on a dreary and rainy day
LOVE the cloud umbrella. And I get weirdly gushy thinking about the symbolism as an engagement photo prop … black, rain-drenched weather outside, but your love shelters you with sunny blue skies.
Or something like that.
And our photographer loves shooting in rainy weather — great light!
I think it will turn out wonderfully. Just make sure to wear waterproof mascara!
Could you get a quickie sorta wedding-ish dress and do in advance a trash the dress pic too? Could be perfect given the weather? You could return it if it doesn’t rain.
I also love the suggestion of the LBD and the black n white umbrella. Looks great in b&w pics!

oh my goodness. it rained on our picture day. except it wasn’t our e-pics. I like to call it our pre-engagement picture. and our photog braved the rain and took some awesome pics of us while giving us his umbrella =)
