Welcome Totes!

October 28th, 2008 @ 5:03 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

We welcomed our guests to San Francisco with totes filled with goodies and useful information.

Guidebooks & Maps
We ordered guidebooks and maps from the Only in San Francisco: The Official Visitor’s Site for San Francisco. I contacted them through the website and ordered maps and visitor’s guides. I had these shipped to NY and then brought them to SF. If you have enough time at your destination I recommend picking these up on site - one book doesn’t seem like much, but 20 books weighs a lot!

Welcome Brochure
Using Microsoft Office Publisher on my computer, I designed a welcome brochure that included a welcome note, schedule of events, information about our Flickr page, wedding transportation and local sites and visitor attractions. SIL PN and I used ribbon to bundle the brochures, guidebooks and maps into one cute package!

Postcards
I borrowed Mrs. Cream Puff’s idea and include two postcards in each tote. I stamped and addressed one postcard to me and Mr. PN and included a blank one for the guest to use. Then I paperclipped a card to the postcards asking the guests to send us a postcard with their favorite memory from the weekend (we’ve already gotten a couple in the mail!). I created the cards using left over DIY business card paper (these would also be great for escort cards).

Snacks and Sweets
We also filled the totes with snacks and sweets. We went to the Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s to get natural/organic crackers, granola bars, breakfast bars and fruit leather. We also included Ghirardelli Chocolates (purchased at Ghirardelli Square) and lollipops from San Francisco favorite, See’s Candies.

Totes
I purchased navy blue cotton totes from Cheap Totes for $1.19 each.

All of the guests staying at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway (our group hotel) received a welcome tote when they checked in. Many guests thanked us for this thoughtful gift and were happy to receive the great gifts and useful information.

What will you include in your welcome totes to help your guests enjoy themselves in a new city?

We’re planning on getting a local visitor guide for my hometown, which is north of Baltimore. We’ll also include local favorites like Utz Crab chips, Berger cookies, etc. etc.

Your totes are so cute. I did paper bags and wish I would have found the totes that you had!! I also included local favorites - I’m from Cincinnati so I included Busken Bakery Cookies, coupons for skyline chili, and chocolates from Bon Bonerie! Bottled water is key as well - you know how much they charge for bottled drinks at hotels!!!
