Pt. I: Make Me Pretty!
Pt. II: Time to Get Bridal
Pt. III: On the Other Side
Pt. IV: I See You!
Pt. V: The Final Countdown
I will never forget the surreal experience of walking down the aisle. In all the blissful blur of the entire wedding day, walking down the aisle is the one moment that remains crystal clear in my mind. Have you guys ever seen the movie, “Big Fish”? I felt as if it were like the last scene in the movie, where the dad is heading toward the lake, his final destination, and along his path he sees the faces of everyone who played a significant role in his life - smiling, loving, egging him on. That’s really what it felt like to me, and I finally understood why that was such a perfect ending to that movie!
Here we come! I am so glad that I decided to buck Christian wedding tradition and have both Mommy and Daddy Daffodil walk me down!
I want to share what I wrote in my journal about walking down the aisle:
“The moment I will never forget: walking down the aisle with my parents. I walked in to see so many smiling faces of people from all different parts of our lives…from locally, from work, from childhood, from college, from overseas, all our extended family. Everyone smiling so much love on us. And then at the front, the most special people…our brothers, sisters, and bestest friends all dressed up beautifully, standing against such a magnificent holy place. Our pastor in the center, smiling like a proud dad. And Mr. D, smiling, also overwhelmed, not able to believe this is really happening…I feel like it was almost a glimpse of Heaven: everyone you love, all there, with so much love surrounding. Everyone rejoicing together, glorifying our Lord together. If such a moment could exist on earth, I cannot imagine what Heaven would be like.”
I love this photo because it is the closest I have to the image etched in my mind…I can see a lot of the faces that I saw as I headed down the aisle. I really couldn’t stop smiling!
And then your eyes fix on the one you love.
A moment so priceless, even if you did see each other before the ceremony.
As our mothers light the candles, we still can’t quite believe the wheels are in motion.
Mr. D smiles as our college pastor welcomes our guests. I love this photo below…It’s amazing how you can be so giddy and excited, trying to soak things in, that you don’t even realize how lovingly the one you are about to marry is looking at you.
Daddy Daffodil gives me away…
MIL and FIL Daffodil sing opera on the side, and they also serenaded us with a beautiful classical piece during our ceremony.
Our pastor gives a homily with the most perfect words of advice and wisdom for our marriage.
Then it’s time for our vows. We both wrote our own. No matter how nervous you think you might be, in that moment, the whole world really does just melt away. ![]()
We exchange our rings…
…and light the unity candle.
We then had set aside a couple minutes where Mr. D and I could have a chance to say a few words privately to one another and also pray together for the first time as a married couple. This was one of our favorite moments of the ceremony, because it gave us a chance to pause, bask in the moment, try to take the whole experience in. We were looking at each other, in disbelief, with the hugest smiles on our faces.
Then Mr. D says, “I knew that it would be perfect, but I didn’t imagine it would be THIS amazing.” Which is when I started crying
. Because I couldn’t have said it better.
Mr. D wipes away my tears
After our moment, we honor our parents. They have poured everything into us, and we know we are so blessed because of them.
You may kiss the bride!
And again…and again…
Yes, it’s true, we kissed three times. “I guess once wasn’t enough,” as our pastor made sure to point out to everyone! ![]()
We DID it! We’re MARRIED! Can’t stop smiling!!!
