A Wedding to Wake the Dead

October 29th, 2008 @ 1:08 pm by Mrs. Shortcake

Mr. Shortcake and I got married on October 4th because it was one of the only two dates available for our reception. The other date was October 31st, and I struggled to decide between the two. Loving Halloween as much as I do, I was pumped at the thought of having such a unique un-wedding-y wedding. In the end, we chose the 4th because our anniversaries would most likely revolve around our children’s activities in the future and we were set on having a special day all to ourselves. Sister Shortcake, on the other hand, is quite keen on tying the hangman’s knot and jumping the witch’s broom on October 31st (not that she’s engaged, but a girl can plan ahead, can’t she? :) ). To her then, and to any other boo-tiful brides out there, I dedicate this post.

Because your mother wanted the cake, at least, to be classic:

{SOME MORE IDEAS FOR CENTERPIECES }

Pumpkins are a classic centerpiece, but to mix things up you could use orange, gold, black, or grey tablecloths:

These poison bottles would make cute favours as well—you could put thank you messages inside the bottles!

You could cluster groups of these tin luminaries on the tables, or even line your aisle with them.

How cute would these lanterns look suspended from the ceiling?

{ NON-TRADITIONAL ATTIRE }

You could go as your favourite creepy characters (and have your guests join you!):

Or dress in unusual colour combinations… the bride wore orange? red? puce?

Or, you could vintage-glam-goth-it up Dita von Teese style, and eat out the heart of every man as you walk down the aisle. Not literally, but then again, it is your wedding!

If you were having a Halloween wedding, what would you do?

Just something I noticed today…if you are doing a Halloween wedding, Cracker Barrel has some great stuff that would be great decoration for a classy Halloween wedding at 40% off right now. There was a post about a month ago on the board about this, and when I saw all the goods they had today, I immediately thought of those Halloween brides-to-be!

My fiancee and I genuinely considered getting married on Halloween in 2009, but ultimately decided against it (though I kinda wish we’d stuck with it!). The plan was to do an old fashioned masquerade themed reception, complete with gorgeous masks at each guest’s place. Very Phantom-of-the-Opera style.

We also found it absolutely adorable that there are tall glasses called Zombies. All drinks would have HAD to be in those. :)

I did have a Halloween wedding (on the 18th)! All of our guests wore costumes, the centerpieces were elaborately carved pumpkins, and our cake topper was an etsy-made bride and groom skeleton pair. My MOH made masquerade masks for the bridal party…we were going for a sort of Poe feel. Our linens were black, orange, and purple and we had black chairs. We used Halloween party invitations for our invites! We don’t have the pro pics yet, but if anyone needs some inspirations I would be happy to send the detail shots along…airennl@yahoo.com

@Tiki: @Jillian: thanks ladies. Unfortunately, as our photography was one of the things to horribly wrong on our big day, right now there’s not much to recap. :(

I am getting married Oct 2009. I think the fall colors are so inspiring but I am not so sure about the Halloween theme for my wedding. These are amazing pictures…you can actually do something classy and elegant for your celebration.
