Friendship Rings

October 29th, 2008 @ 11:29 am by Mrs. Sea Breeze

I’ve been wracking my brain for the past four months as to what to give my bridesmaids as a thank-you gift, and now my brain is hard wired so that I can’t NOT ask myself, ‘Could this be a nice BM gift?’ whenever I see just about anything.

It just happened again and this is probably not an original idea (is ANY wedding idea original anymore??) but it occurred to me that it might actually be quite sweet to give your bridesmaids a ring. A friendship ring, that is. I mean, the wedding couple exchanges rings as a symbol of their love, so why not give rings to your best friends to show them how much they mean to you? I’ve always liked the idea of jewelry, as it’s something they’ll have forever, but I think most brides lean towards pendants and bracelets, at least, in my experience.

What made me think of this?

Tiffany Notes band ring

*Sigh* If only my name were Tiffany… It would be perfect! (Heh)

For all us non-Tiffanys, it might be possible to get a plain ring and have it engraved with something meaningful to you and your friend on the outside of the ring. That could be kind of cute. Hmm… what do you think?

Do you know of any brides who gave their bridesmaids/MOHs a ring as a thank-you gift? Are there any other pieces of jewelry that make good gifts, other than pendants, bracelets or earrings?

I LOVE this idea. Love. The wicked part of me thinks that if I had one from a girlfriend, I would have worn it on my ring finger when traveling (back before I was engaged)! And, yesIknowI’mweird, I like to wear jewelry given to me by special people when I’m under stress, like my own personal armor (job interviews, presentations, sad days). I think this is a fabulous idea!!

You could have it engraved with a word (like “love” or “peace” or “strength”) or their names and the year! I bought my mom a beautiful silver bracelet with her initial on it from Red Envelope last year for Christmas and it was a big hit.

I’ve been thinking the exact same thing.. Some of my girlfriends and I were discussing the Tiffany “stacking” rings and discussing how it would be nice to have the coloured stones as a gift to one another for special occasions (weddings, first borns, etc.). Might want to look at Etsy because I’ve seen a lot of “engraved” as well as stacking rings there as well. Ps, I like the ring idea MUCH more than the other jewelery, because I know I have lots of stuff I have worn the day of, and never again….

I think that’s the idea behind poesy rings, you’ll find a lot of information/options on them just by googling.

I love this idea!! Let us know what you find. I would find it so special. Like Laura said, the wedding jewelry is usually not worn after that day. I like that they could have something simple and wearable to wear all the time!

I love this idea, especially with stones to match the wedding colors. I have 3 on my side of the party, including a man of honor… Any suggestions for how to adapt for a male? I was thinking of doing the same color/metal in different pieces for each - maybe a ring, earrings and cufflinks? I’m not sure guys use cufflinks on a regular basis though…

I never thought of rings, what a great idea! I am not a big fan of jewelery but I’ll always wear rings because they’re easy, and carry a great symbolic value as well!

I think that’s a great idea. Rings are definitely wearable anytime and would be a great reminder of the day for your gals.

My sister and I have matching stacking rings and we had the same idea as Laura above–we get them for each other to mark special milestones/occasions.

Just bear in mind that if you want to get the outside of a ring engraved, you’ll probably need to go through a jeweler. I used to work in one of those mall engraving shops, and they only do the insides of rings generally.

It’s a sweet idea, though. And you could always go through etsy or something and get a nice imprinted ring rather than custom engraving.

I love the engraved ring idea! My girlfriends and I do charm bracelets so we can wear them around our ankles– but that’s just because most can’t wear necklaces, rings, or bracelets in the OR.

I think it really depends on your girls, I know in my case out of all the jewelry options I would be -least- likely to wear a ring. The only ring I’ve ever worn is my engagement ring(and eventually my wedding band) because I’m not really a fan of rings.

I was MOH for a good friend several years ago. She gave me a beautiful little gold pinky ring with the forever symbol and “friend” inscribed on the inside of the band. It is special, meaningful and cherished. I think your maids would love a special ring from you.

I tried to convince my brother to get his girlfriend’s engagement ring from her since he wanted to give her something simple but feminine. The sterling silver stackable sapphire rings are my favorite. It looks like each one is about 30-50 dollars depending on if you get sapphire or another stone. You could do amethyst, blue sapphire, peridot, ruby, color after color after color. LOVE THEM.
