Farewell My Loves

Guiseppe Zanotti Champagne Peep Toe Shoes

I knew it had to happen sooner or later. It was just too good to be true. Remember my dream shoes? I had to return them yesterday. I walked into Saks with a box of beautiful Zanottis, and I walked out with a heavy heart and a little tear in my eye. I would never see them again. I tried to make them as comfortable as I could, but I could tell things were not going to work out between us- at least not for an entire eight hour day on my feet.

I felt silly moping around yesterday, until I finally told myself it was ok to sulk but I must get over it- not everything has to be “dreamy” or “perfect” on our wedding day. Sure I found my dream shoes, but they just didn’t work out- I had to move on.

So I did. I ordered 11 pairs of shoes from Zappos. Retail therapy overkill? Perhaps. But becuase I’ve got a tough foot to fit, the more shoes I try the better chance I have at finding a pair that will work. After all, many of our guests won’t have a clue what kind of shoes I’m wearing. And this time around, I got a little more creative and a little less mainstream “bridal shoe”. In fact, I think I found a pair that’s going to work for dancing.

So they’re obviously the complete opposite of my dream shoes, but they’re really comfortable, and I think they’ll add a fun festive touch for late night dancing. I’m a little hesitant about the color, so I’m waiting for my dress to come in before I make a decision. If I can get over the color, all I have to find is a pair of more traditional ceremony shoes. Maybe I’ll use a portion of the money I saved by returning my Zanottis for a cute pair of ceremony shoes. Not a bad trade. What do you think?

Pop of red for the reception and a more classic pair for the ceremony? Any other two shoe brides?

I love the idea of coloured shoes peaking out of the dress!!

Those Champagne ones are gorgeous - do you think you could find a comfortable plain pair and a set of big sparkle ear-rings to mock up somthing similar? I’ve done that to dress up shoes (big feet, pretty shoes are hard to find) - earrings, flowers, bows.

Just a thought.

(Thanks for the Zappos link - never heard of them before - I feel a shopping binge coming on).

Endless has free next day shipping and free returns, and I love, love, love their search function — so much easier than Zappos!

you should try looking at salsa or other ballroom dancing shoes.. they usually have low heel options and are super comfortable, especially for someone in your situation.

Have you looked at jcrew? Their shoes are expensive but some of them look fabulous.

in “metallic guava”

Have you looked into ballroom dancing shoes? I ordered a pair for dancing and they are super comfy and you can customize them with different fabrics, heel height and styles. Try http://www.bestballroomshoes.com.

@pammietee: I think all of the custom shoes (wide) are special order and you can’t return them if they don’t work. Boo. But I do love that site and some of the shoes are really cute- maybe I’ll try to find a place in the D.C. area that carries ballroom shoes. Thanks for the suggestion!

If I had to choose one color for a pair of dancing shoes, I would definitely pick red. I think those are great dancing shoes.

Also, I agree with kenziegirl on http://endless.com. I used to shop at Zappos, but now I ALWAYS go to endless first. Their user interface is so much better than Zappos and I’ve found that their prices tend to be the same or better than Zappos. And they still have all the same perks of free returns for up to a year, etc. So make sure you check them out too!

I just ordered three pairs of potential wedding shoes from zappos! They sent me an email that evening saying they were giving me priority shipping and they arrived the next day! Do they do this for everyone? I love zappos!

Confession: I’ve maxed out my credit card with Zappos.

Ahhhh, I feel so much better.

I am!! I’m doing a white shoe for the ceremony and a red shoe for the reception. It’s a compromise with my mom.

I’m not going to be a two shoe bride, but I am looking for really fun and comfortable red shoes to wear all day!! I love the idea of having a fun pop of color under my white dress. A little unexpected surprise for anyone who catches a peek during the ceremony!! :)
