Not So Glare-morous

October 30th, 2008 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

Most of my life I’ve worn glasses. They don’t aggravate me when I wear them at all day. It’s something I’ve gotten used to, but just recently, in thinking about our wedding, I decided I want to be a bride with no glasses. No, I’m not just taking off my glasses. If I did that, everything would be blurry and my klutz level would rise to dangerous proportions. The reason for the switch then? Glare… yeah, you glasses wearing brides know ALL about glare!

I’ve been HAUNTED by glare in yearbook pictures, candids, prom night and almost in our engagement pics, too. However, our wedding photog is excellent and she just wasn’t going to let it happen! Check out our e-pics for proof! :)

Look at an example of my tragic glare that I found all over my Facebook pictures. Sorry for the bad quality.

I decided to avoid any type of glare, I’m going to wear contacts. *gasp* Well, I’ve worn contacts before in college. I just quit because I’m lazy and really don’t like fighting with my eyes in the morning. Here’s a picture of me with contacts.

Now, the fun part: Picking the contacts. I have naturally greenish-grayish (weird color) eyes. Here, I’m wearing aqua enhancements. Acuvue sells these enhancement contacts that just add tint to light colored eyes. It doesn’t look fake at all!

I really liked the aqua when I wore them, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to get those again.

If you are hesitant about colors, you can always go to the site for a free trial pair or even a virtual look at how the colors would look on you. However, I couldn’t get my eyes to line up quite right in the picture to show you an example. It’s a little hard to work with, but hey, you can’t beat a free trial pair!

Are any of you glasses wearing brides looking to wear contacts for the wedding?

I really like the green tint contacts! The thing about them is that the entire lens is tinted, so when I wear them I see everything with a green tint!

I am fighting with this same issue right now. I wear glasses daily. My hair is dark brown, and I wear dark frames almost the same color. I am afraid they will be too harsh for an all ivory wedding wardrobe. My fiance prefers me in glasses, so maybe I will just get new frames before the wedding that arent so strong.
5.5mos to go, so I’m sure I’ll come up with something by then.
I’ve never tried the colored lenses, sounds fun.

Because I can’t wear contacts — I used to be able to, before being diagnosed with ocular rosacea — I got ICL surgery, and now, I’m seeing 20/20. In time for my e-pics, and plenty of cushion before next summer’s wedding! Here’s info about ICL for anyone who’s interested: http://www.visianinfo.com/

A word of advice to any bride considering getting contacts for the first time: get them well in advance of the wedding. When I started wearing contacts, it took forever to get them in, and I had to get used to the feeling of something being on my eye. After a month or so I was good to go, but you don’t want those type of issues coming up on your wedding day!

@Alexa: Wow, I never had that happen with the aqua. :( That stinks about the green!
@kenziegirl: Thanks for the compliment :)
@Catherine: I’m planning on starting contacts up again in a couple weeks actually. I totally understand the beginning struggles….it really stinks! I’m so lazy!

I wear glasses and contacts. My husband actually likes when I wear my glasses but I just don’t feel “pretty” in them.. I feel nerdy and bookwormish. So I wore my contacts! Definately try to wear them for a the whole day. One bad thing is when you’re not used to them your eyes feel really dry and carry eye drops for contacts on the day of the wedding because itchy dry eyes are not fun!

I happened to get new glasses (at Lenscrafters) six or seven months before the wedding, and one of the options they gave me was non-glare lenses. Sure enough, even the closest flash in the darkest room makes it look like I’m wearing frames with nothing in ‘em.

From another perspective, I’ve always been a staunch believer in looking like yourself at your wedding, so as a glasses-wearer, it made sense for me to wear glasses.

I have glasses with that non-glare coating too - there is absolutely no glare in pictures! I rarely wear my glasses because I prefer contacts, but this is a great option.

Anti reflection coating is a MUST these days if you’re going to wear glasses. You look great in either! Tell me what you end up wearing. Are you going to wear colored contacts all the time or just on occasion?

My husband wore contacts on our wedding day. He brought along his glasses and switched halfway through the reception when the contacts started to bother him.
