About Mrs. Cupcake

Five Years Ago…

October 31st, 2008 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Cupcake

Five years ago today — Friday, October 31, 2003 — I met a boy. I thought this boy was cute, despite his mullet wig, but I had no idea that this boy would soon become the love of my life, my husband, and my family.

It is hard to believe all that has happened in five years. We met, we fell in love, and we dated long-distance for two years. He moved away from his parents for the first time ever to be closer to me, got a new job, and changed his life around to make me happy. We moved in together, we went to about a thousand weddings, and we held each other’s hands at a few sad funerals. We learned how to live with each other, he rightfully named my alter-ego “Cranky McCrankerson,” and I acquired several funny stories about the strange conversations we have when he is half asleep. He gave me a sparkly ring, I put my heart and soul into planning the wedding of our dreams, and we shared a tissue in front of all of our guests.

We have a new anniversary now, so we won’t celebrate our “meetiversary” with fancy dinners or gifts anymore… but Halloween will always remind me of the night we met and how very far we’ve come. Sometimes it still surprises me how everything worked out — how two people who weren’t each other’s “type” somehow had this immediate connection and wound up married five years later. Really, who would’ve thunk it??

Happy “meetiversary,” Mr. Cupcake. I know sometimes I have a funny way of showing it, but I love you and I love what we have together. In honor of our love and all the fun we have together, here are a few photos from Halloweens past. May we share many more goofy costumes in our life together.

The Violet Beauregard costume I was wearing the night we met (that’s my Matron of Honor/former roommate as Veruca Salt!)

Our one-year anniversary, as Daphne and Fred

(And a little surprise attached to Mr. Cupcake’s leg)

Our two year anniversary, as Britney and K-Fed

Have you and your fiance/husband dressed up as a famous duo for Halloween? What did you go as?

Congrats on the five-year mark! You two look like a fun couple and I love your costumes!

Last year my boyfriend and I went as Pee Wee Herman and Lara Croft. It wasn’t a “couple” outfit, but he looked hilarious!

Good luck with the future!

While we had met over a year earlier… my husband and I shared our first kiss on Halloween 6 years ago! (Though, we did not start dating until December, because I had convinced myself that he was not “my type” and I did not want to have to call him my boyfriend!)

Congratulations! I still think you should continue to celebrate your meetiversary… and I’m jealous of your costumes. We agreed to throw a costume party months and month ago, and now I’m scrambling to figure out what I have already that can become a costume!

We were actually Daphne & Fred before, too! Everyone kept asking us “which way to the mystery machine”. Tonight, we’re going as a Native American and a cowboy. We’ve also been Austin Powers and the nightie-wearing Fembot. It’s great that you have such awesome memories of your first meeting.

That is so cute! Halloween at my university (Ohio U.) is very VERY big. Today marks our 3rd and final Halloween at OU and our first couple’s costume (Batman(girl) and Joker!). Our first Halloween we had JUST started dating, so the holiday is special for us as well.

Where, oh WHERE do you find such amazing wigs? You two are so sweet together - and yes, I agree that you should still celebrate your meetiversary! If it weren’t for your meetiversary, you wouldn’t have an anniversary, right?

Funny story - my fiance calls my alter-ego “Judgy McJudgerson.” Where do guys come up with these Blanky McBlankerson names?

That looks like so much fun! I’m totally jealous - my fiance doesn’t dress up for Halloween - but maybe now that I’m inspired, I can convince him to do it with me next year.
PS. . . LOVE your Britney shirt!

You guys make an awesome Daphne and Fred! The stuffed Scooby is fantastic icing on the cake!

Last year we were Ron Burgandy and Veronica Corningstone from Anchorman. This year we’re doing Mary Poppins and Bert. He’s a big fan of couple’s costumes. :-)

Thanks, everyone, for the lovely words! I’m glad you like us ;-)

@Wiglet: All of those wigs were purchased at good ol’ Halloween Adventure! The Daphne one is not NEARLY as cute on its own…. I lucked out finding that perfect headband to add.

@MagPie518: Pretty embarrassing, but Mr. Cupcake was dressed up as white trash when we first met :-) Yes, I fell for a man with a mullet! (At least it was fake!)

@loralie: I made that shirt myself from an Old Navy tank and a Sharpie, plus a steady hand!

@CaitStClair: “I’m Ron Burgundy???????” :-)

Loved the pics. Yesterday was also our 5 year meetiversary. I was a hootchie and my sweetie was the trojan man that Halloween. Every hootchie needs a good trojan man.
