To Veil or Not to Veil?

October 31st, 2008 @ 4:41 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

Yes, that seems to be the question for many brides. Personally I never really thought about it until I saw this:

My favorite celebrity bride of all time and my dress’ namesake, Mrs. Jackie O

OMFG! Can you imagine the incredible photo ops one could create with a veil like this?! I did a little “research” and found that you too can sport a similar reproduction of this baby for the bargain price of…$765!!

Yeah, a bit out of my price range as well. Also, as much as I love the lace (and I do, I really really do!) it just doesn’t go with my gown or any other wedding details.

Since my mother has so graciously offered to create my veil for me I have the opportunity to incorporate some of the details of Jackie’s veil that I love into my custom design.

So far I’m thinking I’d like it to be long and full much like Mrs. Kennedy’s (me thinks they call this a Cathedral veil…since I’m 5 foot nothing I also think a Chapel veil would be a Cathedral on me…hmm…). However, I really want a blusher and a bit of a ribbon edge. Since my dress is ivory I think its best we go with ivory for the veil as well. For example (and please ignore the awesomeness that is the unitard…)

So, what do you think? I’m incredibly open to suggestions, so please feel free to offer up alternate ideas!

Well if it makes you feel better about the reproduction being crazy expensive, Jackie didn’t pick out her wedding attire–her mom did. And she hated it.

I have never seen Jackie’s veil. How could she hate it? (If diorable is right! Oh I wish you weren’t right!)

For those photos you crave, you might consider a separate veil and blusher. That way the 2nd layer doesn’t cover the crazy gorgeous neckline for photos. Just a thought.

Oh, I so dig the unitard. Looks fanTAStic with the veil. Rock it, girl! :-)

I LOVE Jackie’s veil. Im not too fond of the hat thing, but with a little modification it could work! OOOHHHH I cant wait to see what you choose.

Look at oval or drop veils. If you’re short, a full veill could be overwhelming. Also the blusher PLUS the veil could be overwhelming, too. Go to a veil shop and try some on … Or get some fabric and play with it first! Also, look for “diamond white” or “silk white” tulle instead of ivory. I’ve heard that ivory tulle is yellow-hued, much more yellow than most ivory wedding dresses.

I love the cathedral / chapel veil length, too, so I’m sure it’ll be gorgeous!

here are some pictures from my recent wedding…for which my veil was the focus:

(obviously, i’m a ‘to veil’ proponent)

Long Live The Marriage

A new Jackie Kennedy veil has been added to the website http://www.longlivethemarriage.com. The price is reduced and the lace is amazing!
