I’m Not Trendy

November 2nd, 2008 @ 11:12 am by Mrs. Deviled Egg

I found the following article when I did a Google search for 2009 wedding trends:

If you’re throwing a Spring 2009 wedding event - or are planning on attending one - learning about the season’s top wedding trends can make the event even more unforgettable. Wedding trends for Spring 2009 capture some of the season’s fresh designer trends from the runways, and the year calls for a mix of classic styles and modern designs.
From Grecian-inspired gowns for the bride to flapper dresses for the bridesmaids, here are some of the best Spring 2009 wedding trends to plan for:

Wedding Trend for Spring 2009: Black Flowers and Accessories

Black wedding dresses were a top trend in 2007, and black reigns on with black accessories for 2009. Pick up black roses or rosettes, black table linens and black and white color combinations for a sophisticated and modern look.

Wedding Trend for Spring 2009: Pink Flapper Dresses

Pink is a top choice for color this Spring 2009, so deck out the bridesmaids in classic, pastel or shocking pink for a modern twist to basic cream and white. Flapper-inspired dresses with their fitted, mid-calf length style get a fresh look in innocent pink.

Wedding Trend for Spring 2009: Red-Trimmed Wedding Gowns

Red is a bold and vibrant addition to the usual pastels and classic white ensembles for Spring weddings, and you’ll find it trimming wedding gowns and bridesemaid dresses this season. The red and white combination adds a twist of modern romance to any Spring wedding.

Wedding Trend for Spring 2009: The Mini Wedding Dress

Super-short wedding dresses are a fresh trend for Spring 2009, giving you every excuse to show off those legs this season. Pair this look with ankle-tied sandals for a chic, dramatic look this wedding season.

So, let’s see…

Black Flowers and Accessories - Unless I can count my groom in his black tux as an accessory, nope.

Pink Flapper Dress - For my bridesmaids? Oh, heck to the N-O!

Red-trimmed Wedding dresses - Red’s not even part of the color palette.

The Mini Wedding Dress - While I think short dresses are cute, my dress will be one of the more traditional, longer versions.

Well, I guess our wedding won’t be a trend-setting affair. But you know what, that’s OK! I love the traditional elements we are incorporating into our wedding and I think there will be a couple aspects that our guests have probably never seen before at a wedding. I think the most import thing is that, trendy or not, the day will be a reflection of us.

Are your wedding plans incorporating industry-fueled trends, do you plan on going pretty traditional, or do you plan on creating your own trends?

My colors are red & white but not for trendy reasons. Red represents passion and love and the combination is beautiful to us. when we first started dating we agreed on the palette, which was 7 1/2 years ago.

i was, however, going to wear the DB red & white dress that everyone’s done… but it looked horrid on me.

I think its ok to incorporate one or maybe two “trends” but feel its mainly important to keep your wedding and your look as “timeless” as possible. You don’t want to look back on your wedding day and know what time period you were married in. I think its important to keep your style and focus on what you love.

And short wedding dresses? Unless you’re getting married in a Vegas chapel… no thank you!

I guess according to Sabah I will be the least trendy bride of Spring ‘09 and I am proud of it, thank you.

One of my aunts followed the wedding trends in the 80’s….and she has the wedding pictures to prove it!!! She has tons of blue eye shadow, and a huge “wedding hat.” Although she still looks very pretty in the pictures, the 80’s trends are definitely the first thing you notice. While I’m sure there will be some 2009 elements that date my wedding pictures, I’m aiming for a more timeless look. :-)

@Kenzie
I agree. Red trimmed wedding dresses are *nothing* new or trendy.
