Stressed

In my “college” years I attended a 2-year art school. Towards the end of my 2nd year I started getting the worst migraines. They were the kind where any light or noise would make my head feel like it was being stabbed by an ice pick. I was prescribed Imitrex and later figured out my massive and frequent migraines were due to stress. The stress of graduating from school and having to venture out into the real world with hopes of finding a job.

Last week I had my first “ice pick” headache in 7 years.

This isn’t completely due to wedding stress, although it has contributed. We have four months left of planning and preparation. Four months seems like plenty of time, right?! Then why do I feel like I don’t have enough time left? Mostly my stress is due to time management (in my personal life, and work wise, too); so much to do, so little time to do it in. Not only have I been working full time (plus my one weekend a month military drills), I’ve been taking night classes at the local community college (for work), freelancing on the side, and planning a wedding. In the past 2 months, I have yet to have a full day to myself.

This is why you haven’t seen me a lot lately, and I apologize. I’m taking a week off of freelancing, of classes (no classes are scheduled next week! Woot woot!), and of wedding planning (and blogging), and concentrating on catching up on work. I promise to come back to the hive in a week, refreshed and ready to go! Don’t forget me in my 7 day absence, I’ll have a lot to talk about when I get back.

I have those exact same headaches! People don’t understand my “ice-pick” description; it’s nice to know somebody does.

Feel better and take some time for yourself! You sound completely overworked…my Mom gets migraines like you. It’s terrible. Rest up!

Oh sweetie, feel better! When I get those headaches, I find that the only thing thing that helps is a nice drink with good friends. Good on you for taking the break to slow down!

I used to get migranes in high school and the only thing that would work was to throw up (sorry for being gross) and sleep for the rest of the day. I stopped having them through college, and then, right after I got engaged and bought a house, they began again. After a summer off (I am a teacher and last year was also my first year), I haven’t had them in months. I expect they will happen again as my wedding gets closer and the school year goes on, but at least I know it is a sign that I need to slow down and take a break. Listen to your body because sometimes it knows more than you do!

Ooh, weird! I’m on Day Four of that exact type of headache. I don’t know what to try. I’ve been sleeping, drinking water, and trying ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc. Nothing. The Emergency Room said to do what I’m doing. God, they’re excruciating. I’m heading to the doc tomorrow.
