Mrs. Dumpling's Picture
Mrs. Dumpling, Las Vegas Age and Occupation: 27, Finance Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Real Estate Engagement Date: March, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 26, 2008 Venue: Catholic church ceremony & golf course reception About Me: I grew up in the Deep South, and while most people say I have a thick southern accent, I tend to think it only comes out when I need to use it. Living in Las Vegas has definitely been an adventure and Mr. Dumpling and I are loving every minute of it! We are planning a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony and a reception with lots of DIY! We might even get Elvis to show up! I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, love The Office and can't wait to become a Mrs.!
About Mrs. Dumpling

I’m a little stressed. Mr. Dumpling won’t tell me what he is planning to wear on our wedding day. We have less than 5 months to go, and I have no clue what he’s even thinking about wearing. Every time I bring it up, he says he has it under control and that “it’s going to be a surprise!” OK. I like surprises. I like to be surprised when I open my Christmas gifts. I’d like to be surprised when we open the wedding presents. I’d even like to be surprised one day as to the gender of our first child. But not so much on his style of tuxedo. I mean, if he’s even planning to wear a tux, right?!

And he’s so smooth, people. I’ll bring it up and he’ll smile and flash his pearly white teeth and adorable dimples and I’ll totally forget that we were talking about tuxes…again. How does he do that!?

He’s usually a very stylish guy. So stylish, in fact, that sometimes I actually change clothes after I see what he’s got on when we have date night. I know he’ll look great in whatever he chooses to wear, but there are so many wrong choices out there in terms of tuxedos. Let’s go through the “I hope this isn’t the surprise” file:

1. White tux. Although white tuxes can be very chic, my wedding dress is ivory and it won’t match!

2. Tuxedo Shirt. Call me crazy, but I don’t think I’ll chuckle at that kind of surprise. So not funny!

Here’s what I had in mind for the men to wear.

Classic black tuxedo with a tie instead of a bow tie. How hot is Gabriel Aubrey in this Calvin Klein ad? I think this look is very timeless and elegant. Since we are having a formal wedding, I think something like this will look fantastic on my gorgeous hubby-to-be.

Black tuxedo with white (or light pink, but I doubt that will happen!) vests and ties. Oh, the pinstripes! Love those pinstripes!

Or, a plain black suit that he already owns (saves $$!):

And finally, here is my favorite menswear look, modeled by Mr. Eggplant:

I have had this picture in my wedding files ever since Mrs. Eggplant posted it and I’ve tried to casually show Mr. Dumpling a thousand times. He just smiles and laughs and tells me “not to worry” and that he’s got it “under control.” Um, what does that mean, exactly? I’m trying not to go all bridezilla on him and demand to know what he wants to wear, but I wont lie… it’s hard. He’s being an absolute dreamboat and letting me plan most of the details without saying a word (well, except when he vetoed my Beatles theme idea), and I should just be quiet and trust that he’ll look amazing on our big day.

Which I know he will, because he’s awesome.

Ok. I’m all calmed down now.

Were you involved in choosing your groom’s attire? If not, how did you deal with it? Are there any parts of your wedding that your sweetie is completely in charge of?

I am getting a surprise too. And it is only fair I guess… if they don’t get to see the dress, we can’t demand to see the suit/tux/t-shirt!

Maybe say something about wanting to know because of the groomsmen and wanting to make sure that the bridesmaid dresses go well. He gets to know those right, his should be somewhat similar. Or you could just try to find out where he is renting from and just go there hahah. That would drive me crazy.

My FI is in charge of the men’s attire as well after we compromised on a few things. Adding worry to the situation is that he is slightly color blind and sometimes gets things mixed up…imagine him showing up in an orange shirt thinking that it was really pink! I’m trying to let go and know that he has good taste and his groomsmen are going to help in the color aspect of the decision. But if my wedding photos look like a crazy rainbow you will know why!

This is crazy, he could wear anything!!! lol, just kidding, I’m sure he will look fabulous. ;)

Mr. Taffy has done everything himself, although I went tux shopping with him. We’ve already been out together in his tux, so I won’t have any surprises.

We surprise them with our dresses, I don’t see why they can’t surprise us with their outfits. Mr. Doctor isn’t really a classy dresser, but I’ve told him that he is fully in charge of the men’s wear. He has thrown out ideas like kilts, 1800’s western outfits, board shorts, you name it.

The thing is, if he’s happy, I’m happy. And in the end I know he’ll think about dressing to impress me. This is a great time for us to relinquish control and let them do their thing!

I agree that would make me crazy and you are very brave. But I guess you should trust your guy to be the stylish Dumpling that you say he always is.

I say just let him know how important it is to you that everyone coordinates! Surely if you get this point across he won’t show up in a something too offbeat. (PS - my man wore similar to Gabriel Aubrey, HOT!!)

I let him think he was in charge of menswear, while in the back of my mind I was planning it just as much as anything else. But when we went to the rental place, I just sat in the corner and read their stack of bridal magazines while he shopped. What he chose was just perfect. His family still doesn’t believe I had nothing to do with it.

Oooh boy, you’re brave.

I didn’t dictate what my husband and his dudes wore, but I did go along with him and helped him decide. He ended up with something very similar to the pinstripe ensemble you pictured. He looked so good!

However he almost ended up with a purple vest. I wasn’t about to veto it, but I am glad to say that it didn’t happen.

Aw your future hubby wants his attire to be a surprise, that is soo cute! He will look awesome and hot for you on your wedding day for sure. Me though, I think my fiance will need my input, he is kind of dependent that way and that is fine with me I wont have to worry about it!!

I think it’s cute that he wants to take care of everything all by himself! Mr. Avo would never have been so proactive.

I laughed out loud when I read this - here I thought I was alone! My Mr. insists that until I show him the dress, I don’t get to see his “outfit”… I’m not particularly worried as he is perfectly capable of dressing himself and I have to remind myself that I aught to draw the line at art directing my future husband.

Somehow I think that if he isn’t telling you what he’s wearing, he’s not gonna be wearing an old suit he already owns ;) It IS comforting that he is super stylish! I think you’re gonna be happily surprised!

It would drive me nuts, too….. but something tells me your future hubby doesn’t look bad very often :-) I’m sure he’ll look amazing and he’ll make sure to complement your bridal look!

Just hint to him no white tux/suit and no t-shirt tuxres! Maybe you can even send this post over to him?

Err, last night I heard myself saying, “No, the groomsmen can not wear multicolored Converse… Solid colors are fine.” lol

I told my fiance he’s in charge of himself and the groomsmen, but he says he’s clueless, so ultimately I’m pretty much in charge.

I actually didn’t know what Mr. Espresso and his groomsmen were going to wear until that day. No surprise, I just had so much going on that I totally left it up to him. He’s very stylish as well so I didn’t have anything to worry about it. I’m sure Mr. Dumpling will totally surprise you in a good way :)
