The Secret Lives of Cheese (ahem, Bees)

November 3rd, 2008 @ 6:24 pm by Mrs. Cheese

As Pengy mentioned in her post, we’re doing a Secret Life of Bees feature this week….

I’ve struggled a bit to think of something really juicy to share. I mean, we’ve already talked about boobs, screw-ups (more than once), indecisiveness, and my lack of gardening know-how. I don’t have a secret tattoo or a super-secret alter ego, and you already know I’ve been married before.

Should I talk about cutting the cheese? Stinking like cheese? The moldy cheese in my fridge? Funny (at least I think so) but not terribly exciting or gossipy.

Okay, fine, here’s my secret:

I’ve only made three wedding-related purchases and our wedding is seven months away (well, four purchases if you count each dress separately along with the mister’s shirt and tie and blank stationery… or, is that five?). Even more amazing, we haven’t settled on a date, decided about a wedding party, or put in a rental order! And, um, we don’t really have a budget, figuring we’ll spend what we must and not a penny more.

*Whew* Felt good to get that off my chest. I sometimes feel way out of my league in DIY-ness and planning around my fabulous bee sistas. *cough, Miss Taffy, cough*

We have some leeway because we’re hosting our shindig at home, and we probably have until January before guests start clamoring for some details but we’d better get moving, if only to quell my shallow, panicked breathing.

First, though, we’ve gotta actually clear the path to the clearing. And get a plumber to fix the basement dampness (so that it can be our loft-like guest suite). And replace the bathroom fixtures. And rip out the kitchen cabinets so that we can fit a full size refrigerator, not to mention finally replace the fake-wood countertops (yippee!)… so it’s not like we’re not doing anything, just that much of it isn’t directly wedding-related.

Oi. I think I need a drink.

WOW. But I had a similar secret too. No budget, just kind of settled on decisions when they HAD to be made because I was so indecisive. Trust me, those few months fly by! Plus I can’t believe your remodeling on top of all this! Your the sh*t Miss Cheese.

@Leslie: Heh, heh. More like, knee deep in sh*t! At some point, it’ll all come to a head and we’ll be scrambling around like maniacs. Here’s hoping that point is far, far in the future!

I love your description of your wedding ‘budget’ . That describes our budget to a tee. People look at me funny when I say we don’t have one. But you understand.\

Whew! You just made me feel a heck of a lot better! We’ve changed our date about 20 times, the only thing I’ve bought so far is my Cuttlebug and some stamps (LOVE IT!), he still hasn’t even officially proposed (enough already with the element of surprise dude!), we haven’t consulted with the pastor yet (Uh… I swear it’s on my To Do List, don’t look down on me please…) AND… we decided yesterday to get married sometime in the next 6 months!! Aaaaaaaahhhhh!!

Are we just crazy?

Yea..love can make you crazy. But crazy happy too :)

I’m one waiting for the ring, a second time (I prefer encore) bride, and he’s told everybody (me, our families) that we’re getting married..but the ring is still not on the hand!

And Miss Cheese your planning and budgeting is after my own heart..I started planning early because who knows when it’s gonna be O-fficcial and he says that we’ll already be married by this time next year.. :P

I figure I’ll be “knee deep” by february at the latest…

Oh Miss Cheese, a woman after my own heart. Our wedding day is May 16, that’s the 1 thing we’ve stuck with. I’ve changed venues (and lost deposits twice) until we decided on a backyard reception. At the house we bought and moved into 3 days ago. Oh, and we’re doing a complete kitchen remodel, and knocking down a wall between the kitchen and living room, and putting in hardwood floors, and planning to paint each room, and replace bathroom fixtures, and lights, and ground the electrical. Eeek!

Oh, and did I mention that I’m in graduate school AND working full time. Sigh.

At least our yard is perfection!

Glad to know I’m not the only one with fake wood counter tops and no room for a large fridge in my kitchen!

Cheese, you rock. I think that your heart is in what’s really important in this engagement, so of course the little details and purchases are being put off. If you only have room in your head (and schedule) for so much stuff, I’m glad it’s the happy. Plus, you getting the house ready for the wedding will serve you afterward as well :).
