I already showed you the rings, so I thought you might be curious to learn how we got engaged.
The proposal kind of came as a surprise to me. On Christmas Eve, my parents were hosting family for an evening get-together, so I spent the day helping my mom with preparations and ran around town in the name of Christmas shopping procrastination. Mr. Deviled Egg’s family was having their Christmas Eve dinner together at their house and, since I had plans to visit him on Christmas Day and stay for dinner, I figured we wouldn’t see each other that night. He called me around 8:00 PM and said he was going to come up and visit. Even though I told him that he shouldn’t think it was necessary to make the 45-mile drive, he decided to come up anyway.
He arrived carrying a wrapped present. I asked him what it was and he told me he wanted to give a gift to me before Christmas, but it could wait until later. I felt really bad because I hadn’t even wrapped any of the Christmas gifts I purchased for him. Who am I kidding? I hadn’t wrapped any presents yet and still had a few more to buy.
It was getting to be around 11:00 PM and I asked Mr. DE about the present (yes, I was getting impatient).
He said he wanted to give it to me someplace where it was a little more private, so we headed upstairs. I was clueless that this was leading up to the moment because the shape of the present didn’t evoke suspicion. It was about a foot square and 1 inch thick.
I pulled off the wrapping paper to reveal a scrapbook with a picture of us on the cover. I opened it up and on the first page, there was a typed out Merry Christmas message from Mr. DE. I thought it was really sweet. He gave me a look that made me turn to the next page. There, he wrote some more sweet, personal things and I started to get suspicious. I quickly skimmed the words.
“…Commitment…”
“…Family…”
“…Our future…”
Then, I turned the page again to see these words staring back at me:
“…WILL YOU MARRY ME? ;-)”
I looked at him and he was kneeling with a ring in his hand. Of course I said, “Yes!” It was probably the best natural high I’ve ever experienced. I guess I always thought I would cry during the proposal, but these blue eyes couldn’t muster a single tear. I had a huge smile plastered across my face.
And the ring? The ring was perfect! And he picked it out himself. I don’t think I would have chosen anything different if I picked it out myself. I never gave him hints at styles I liked and he never asked. Like I said, it was all a little bit of a surprise.
After a couple of minutes, it popped in my head to ask if my parents knew. Sneaky Mr. DE said he talked to my dad earlier and got his blessing. I thought that was so sweet!
I couldn’t get over how thoughtful the proposal was. How he took the time to personalize it to one of my hobbies and how he wrote such sincere words inside the scrapbook. (For the record, I went back and read it again after I settled down a little bit. It was such a blur the first time when I just skimmed it.)
I’m pretty sure that natural high lasted for at least the next 5 days. And of course, the tears finally did come when I called and talked to friends and family the next few days to share the news.

Taken shortly after the proposal.
Did you cry during the proposal or did your eyes stay dry?
