A Topper for Mii

November 4th, 2008 @ 12:04 pm by Ms Fondue

Note to Mr. Fondue: This contains photos of my half of the cake topper, so please look elsewhere if you happen to see this post.

One of the most exciting purchases for our wedding has been our cake topper. We were thrilled when we learned we could get a custom cake topper based off of our Mii avatars from our Nintendo Wii. A few different people offered them, but we finally settled on Paul Pape Designs so that we could get completely customized toppers wearing our wedding attire.

I took pictures of our Miis and sent them in along with photos of our attire. Mr. Fondue still hadn’t decided on the black tux or the pinstripe, but he didn’t want to wait, so we opted to make his Mii wear an all black tux for simplicity’s sake.

My biggest conundrum was with my Mii’s hair. I always wear my hair parted to the side, and my everyday Mii reflects that. However, I will have an updo on the wedding day, so I thought I would like my topper Mii to have one as well. But the closest updo choice had a part in the middle. I ended up Photoshopping a mixture of the two hairstyles, so that the updo would have a side part. Mr. Fondue took issue with this at first, since it wasn’t an original Mii hairstyle. But I pointed out that Miis don’t wear tuxes and wedding gowns either, and he relented.

We placed our order early, back in April, but I told him not to rush, since we still had some time. We were rewarded last weekend with our exquisite topper! Mr. Fondue has only seen his Mii, since he wants my dress to be a secret, hence the warning at the beginning of the post.

I love how his glasses are 3D.

Check out the gorgeous detail work he did on my gown. You can’t really tell in these shots, but he even added some glitter to the bodice to show off the sparkly beading.

I love how the train flows off of the back.

The base has a magnet in it, so we can separate them or join them together.

What are you topping your cake with?

Wow, that’s awesome! They are so adorable. Good job with the hair.

Since we love playing the LEGO theme video games, we had a LEGO wedding topper. Our bride and groom are holding hands on a romantic evening street scene with light poles and flowers.

those are adorable! i love how your dress looks in the topper.

for our cake topper (to go with our baseball theme wedding) we had a baseball imprinted with our names & the wedding date & our cake lady is going to make it look like the ball landed on the top of our cake with little fondant splashes coming off the cake! i’m so excited to see how it turns out!

OMG that looks great, he did such a great job. Do you know where you are going to put it after the wedding. I would totally put it on top of the TV, well maybe to the side so it doesn’t affect your sensor bar. Hahaha that is just great.

Wow, the detail on those is amazing! They look so good! We still haven’t come up with a theme for our cake yet, but you bet it’ll be something geeky.

Oooh, your cake topper is awesome! We want to do the same type of topper (featuring our miis, of course) with the same company. I’m guessing you’d recommend them, right? :-D

I love this idea!! We’ve been thinking about doing this too! Our wedding cake is going to be really simple though, so I’m not sure how the Miis would look on it, so we’ve thought about putting them next to the cake or maybe incorporate them with the grooms cake (which may end up being an xbox 360 or a ferrari)…

I love it! We had a blast making our Miis (and our Rock Band alter-egos, for that matter). And this takes it to another level. This is the cutest cake topper ever! Good idea ;-)

That is so awesome!! We didn’t get our Wii until after we were married (used some wedding gift money actually!) but I would have loved to do this. We didn’t have a topper on our wedding cake (just flowers) but I found a topper with a bride and a groom on a motorcycle on eBay that I used for the groom’s cake. My hubby and I love our motorcycle and got engaged on a motorcycle trip, so it was perfect for us.

we got our cake toppers from Paul too–and he even made a tiny mii version of our dog to top it too! we actually know him in person (he is a GREAT guy) and i thought it was hilarious that when we went to pick up the topper, he wouldn’t let the groom see it because it looks EXACTLY like your wedding dress, and it’s essentially what you will look like on your big day.
bonus: he is big into customization. we got married on halloween and so he painted the topper with black light paint so under black light they look like ZOMBIES. he’s a wonder man.
