Heel Help

November 5th, 2008 @ 11:02 am by Mrs. Spring Roll

After seeing the cover of Bride’s Magazine a few months ago, I fell in love with the concept of wearing brightly colored shoes underneath my wedding dress. Pink to be exact.

While trying on dresses, I was instructed to choose a pair of heels to wear. This would give me an idea of what heel height I liked for the chosen dress. I chose a pair of ivory, silk, peep toe heels with rhinestone ornaments. After nearly two hours in them, my feet and I fell in love. They were the most comfortable heels I had ever worn.

Sadly, David’s Bridal does not dye that style heel. I purchased the heels anyway, brushing off the idea of wearing pink heels.

Although my heart sinks a little each time I see photos of brides wearing colored heels, I do love my heels. I may visit a local shoe store to see if they dye silk shoes. FMIL Spring Roll also gave me the idea to replace the rhinestone ornaments with pink brooches.

What do you think? Should I dye the shoes or try the pink rhinestone clips? Will you be wearing colored shoes on your wedding day?

Why wouldn’t David’s let you dye. I say go visit your local shoppe and see what they can do.

i had a similar issue when i picked out shoes - i wanted green shoes but the lady at davids bridal gave me a funny look and i ended up going with a pair of their white ones. later, i decided to still go with my original decision and bought a pair of green shoes anyway. unfortunately i now have 2 pairs of shoes, but i’m way more happy with my green ones - PLUS i can wear them again :)

I would totally go to a local shop and see it they would dye them. I can think of a place near me that would do it, but I’m in CA.

I say take it somewhere else to see if they can dye the shoes and if that doesn’t work go with the brooch which you can also later put on a purse or something.

I like the idea of putting a different brooch on them!

Orrrrr, wear those for the ceremony and get another pink pair for the reception?

i would say just add a pink brooch-super cute! i have heard horror stories about dying shoes..the smell, the quality etc. (i have only had it done once though, and thought it was so so). besides, the shoe with a brooch looks elegant and fun! good luck! :)

I agee that you check with a local shop and see if they can dye them. Otherwise the pink brooch idea is really cute.

I wore black and white spectators, and one of my favorite pictures is of the new MIL scowling at my black toes as I walk down the aisle. Heh!

Dye the shoes! I bet another store could help you out.

I am a big fan of brightly colored wedding shoes as well! My one word of caution– I had a prom experience where we tried to professionally dye shoes not manufactured to be ‘dyable’ (although they looked like the right material!). The color turned out all wrong and was a mess. I say it would be worth a try if you have a back-up. Either way, if the person you seek to dye them is hesitant, I would heed their advice. :) Good luck!

If you dye the shoes, then you could wear them again. If you don’t, the brooch would give it just enough pizazz.

I am definitely going to rock out some colorful shoes for some of our pre-ceremony pics, then I will wear “normal” wedding shoes for the actually ceremony, and I am undecided on the reception. So I say get another pair and possibly wear them to the reception if they are comfortable enough, or just get them and take some cool pictures!!

I like brooch, but check to see if you can have them dyed as well. I am wearing baby blue shoes because they are part of my wedding colors.

I decided to wear blue shoes almost immediately after the proposal. The problem was, I was looking for bright, cobalt blue, and because I’ve done my shopping in the fall, virtually no one is carrying the right color. Everyone has teal and purple and very, very dark navy - but I want my shoes to pop!

Finally I found a pair of satin peep toes from Forever 21, of all places. I’m so glad they are carrying them this season, because otherwise I would have gone barefoot. (Yes, I’m serious.)

I suggest finding out if you can dye the shoes, and if you can’t, then go for the pink brooches. Whatever happens, those are gorgeous!

i say call around to local shoe repair shops and ask if they can dye them for you - in my area some could and some couldn’t - i ended up finding a pair of nine west shoes that look very similar to the pink louboutins on the cover of that magazine…but at a fraction of the cost! i love my RED shoes and wouldn’t have it any other way!

I like the pink broche idea, as an alternative if you aren’t able to get them dyed locally. I definately LOVE the idea of coloured shoes, and I plan on wearing bright raspberry pink ones too (to match the stripe in Mr. Schnitzel’s tie!). I think it’s a great way to incorporate colour into your outfit without the prominence of a coloured sash or coloured embroidery.

I’m wearing a short knee length wedding dress but yellow heels. I’m really excited about it but no my Mom is going to be less than happy:)

I’m planning on wearing hot pink. If your heart is set on pink shoes, I would totally see if another store will dye them for you. If they say no too, then I would go with the pink broach. Both would be fabulous.

I love the idea of the bright colored shoes too… I think if you aren’t able to dye them somewhere else, the pink brooches would be just as lovely :)
