Last time, I discussed the basics of tying a chair sash. This time, I’m going to show you how to do a more complicated tie (although it’s still fairly easy). This is the Obi on BBJ Linen’s website.
The Obi
First, as with the others, find the center of the sash and center it with the front of the chair back. For this one, then adjust it so that the right tail is a few inches longer than the left.
Then tie it once, as you would start to tie your shoes (the Flip).
Pick up the left (longer) side and drape it over your left hand.
With your right hand, take the right tail and wrap it around the left tail. Go clockwise, around the front, under your hand, and around the back.
Then tuck the end of the right tail under itself in the front, tying it.
Tighten by pulling on the loop and the right tail.
And that’s how you do the Obi! (Again, this will look better with a real chair sash.)
Is anyone out there using the obi tie, or another unique sash tie?
