About Mrs. Bee

The Secret Life of Bees: The Bee Edition

November 5th, 2008 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Bee

I can’t top Mrs. Penguin and her secret, so I thought I’d share a couple of random things about me that you probably don’t know. :)

1. I’m a huge hypochondriac.  So much so, that I convinced myself I had AIDS as a virgin.  I have the numbers of 10 different doctors in my cell phone, and I’m an insurance company’s worst nightmare.

2.  I never thought that I would marry someone that I actually loved.  I was never the type to develop crushes, or fall hard for someone, so I always thought that I’d just settle for someone that loved me. (Of course I was wrong!)

3. Before I started Weddingbee, I used to run a vocational school working with welfare-to-work and other government programs in South Central LA.  We had a student that got shot and killed in a drive-by, another that was shot in front of our school… I could tell you so many crazy stories. But it was a great learning experience.

4. I hate the way I look in pictures, except when I’ve been drinking because I let go of my inhibitions and insecurities.  So in most of my pictures, I’m buzzed or drunk!  Mr. Bee hates taking pictures more than I do, so the only pictures we really have of ourselves are our wedding pictures.

5. I do not shave.  I have no hair on my legs, and have a couple of armpit hairs that I pluck every couple of weeks.

6. My parents are Korean immigrants who’ve always had their own businesses.  I’ve only ever worked for family or started my own business, so it’s hard for me to imagine working for someone.

7. I am very much a pessimist.

8. I’m an SSI certified scuba diver, and have lived on boats for 3-4 days at a time, just to dive.  The first dive I made after I got certified, I went down to 126 feet when my diving buddy sunk to the bottom after he had some trouble with his gear.  I panicked and could have died!

9. I LOVE animals.  I’ve rescued many, many animals in my lifetime, and one of my ultimate goals has always been to start a no-kill shelter. My last dog was a stray, and my two cats right now are strays.  When my cat recently got cancer, I put $15k on my credit cards to pay for her chemotherapy and radition treatments.  It was totally worth it.

10. I often go three days in a row without showering.  I work at home alone, and my cats don’t care.  But poor Mr. Bee!

Do ya feel like you know me a little bit better now? :)

For starters, I think we are all jealous of your low maintenance hair. What I wouldn’t give! I’ve always said when I have more money I am so having my underarm hair removed by electrolysis or whatever fancy thing is available at the time.

Also, I hear you on the not showering because you work at home. Why bother?! :)

I am loving this Secret Life of Bees… it is very interesting and cute.

I stay home all day with a husband gone from Monday-Friday. It doesn’t equal very many showers either.

I also do not shave; this doesn’t mean that I don’t need to. My hairs are very thin, but when i let them grow out for, you know, like ever, i do get rather furry. We once had to go home in between a wedding ceremony and the reception so that I could go shave my legs. I don’t think i shaved them for about 6 months before the wedding and Mr. Peng was gonna die if I didn’t shave them.

Bee you’re so funny. And I too am so jealous of your lack of hair! My dad’s Japanese and my mom’s Italian so I had a 50/50 chance of going either way… it so did not go in my favor!

Whew, I’m with you on the shower thing! Somehow time can get away from a girl, when you’re not “getting ready for the office” each day. ;)

I’m an SSI certified scuba diver too, but I’ve never had the chance to go on a live aboard! Dive travel is too expensive while saving for a wedding, but we have awesome wreck diving in the great lakes, so we go diving in Lake Huron all time!

Hah, I love this site! It makes me feel so much better about myself that there are more people out there like me. I have very fine hair everywhere but my head, and its mostly blonde til you get to the bottom of my calves, so I don’t shave much at all in the winter. And it’s sooo hard for me to take a shower in the winter too, I hate to me cold and I waste so much water because I don’t ever want to get out!

I shower more in the summer obviously, but maybe 4 times a week in the winter. I sit at a desk all day and don’t exert myself much, so I don’t stink, altho the fiance sometimes has to call me stinky and make me take a shower! :)
