Playing Dress up: The Flower Girls

November 6th, 2008 @ 10:35 am by Mrs. Lemonade

I’m pretty excited about our flower girls. Mr. Lemonade and I lucked out big time because I have really cute cousins! :) Their participation is also pretty cool because I was a flower girl in one of their mom’s weddings and my sister was in the other.

Don’t hate on my awesome haircut.

Recently my aunt emailed me inquiring about attire for her little one. Crap.

I totally spent like 5 minutes five months ago thinking about flower girl dresses and hadn’t revisited the topic since. I quickly did a little searching around and realized most flower girl dresses are a) expensive and b) kinda tacky. Boo. Then I remembered my favorite go-to never fail site (and purveyor of at least one bridal party accoutrement), the Crew. Of course, J.Crew came through and offered up the sweetest, most perfect little flower girl dress, complete with satin covered buttons (my favorite!).

Unforch, this little cutie is a bit steep. Thus it became the “inspiration” dress. I continued to search and within the half hour I found this lovely over at SoSweetBoutique:

Too cute! I love the sleeves (side note: why is it so hard to find bridal ANYTHING with sleeves?!) and the detail on the back sash. Pair this puppy with some charming ballet flats and we are done.

Get ’em at Endless.

Easiest (and arguably cutest) decision yet.

ADORABLE! We will also be looking for bargains when it comes to our flower girls’ attire. Its such a bummer that they charge so much for these things.

And I second your “we need more sleeves” in bridal fashions!

I am looking for ballet slippers for my flower girl, too! Can you please provide the link to the shoes on Endless? I am searching, and I can’t find that exact pair. So adorable! And I love the flower bow on the back of the dress you chose.

Lovely - I think too often these days the little girls are put in too “grown up” dresses - this is so simple and elegant, I love it!

We’re planning to put our nieces in something flowery and brightly coloured for the wedding - my Mom commented asking why not white, and I said that I already get mistaken for their mother whenever we go out, I didn’t want her to match the bride on our wedding day and have some people wonder :D

Super-cute!

I agree that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to find any (female) wedding attire that has sleeves. WTF?! I’m leaning toward mother of the bride dresses for my BM’s because they are the only things I can find that have any kind of sleeve without looking frumpy. (How ironic is it that I’m calling the mom dresses less frumpy?!)

I could never hate you on your awesome hair cut, especially when I sported the same ‘do :)

Mr. Dumpling had that same haircut when he was little….the bowl cut! That J. Crew FG dress with the buttons…..adorable!

You are so cute in that picture… and HELLO that woman’s hat in the pic is awesome! Someone recently posted about giving their FG a tiara and wand, and I thought it was just adorable! I’ll find the link if you’re interested.

My littler flowergirl wore those shoes and LOVED them! I also found a similar pair on clearance from Target in little girls’ sizes since the ones you pictured are toddlers’. Their mom also loved buying them cheap shoes that they will wear-and wear-and wear!

another AMAZING place to look that has great stuff and is oh-so-affordable is Briar Patch, thebriarpatch.com. Most of the dresses are around 40-50 bucks (sweet!) and they have a huge array of colors and styles. Rock it!

I found some really nice and somewhat classic flower girl dresses at The Briar Patch. Some are pretty fluffy and many are simple. The prices are amazing. I searched on the knot also, and there were very positive postings about The Briar Patch. The website is http://www.shopbriarpatch.com
