Dress-Up

November 6th, 2008 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

I’m currently working to get my bridesmaids together for a dress shopping trip. I have one bridesmaid who is living in Germany, so she’s obviously not available, but finding a date suitable for the other four is a little bit of a challenge. So, until we can figure out a date, I’m doing some research to make sure I am not wasting their time by dragging them from store to store to look at dresses that just won’t do.

For bridesmaid dresses, I really only want them to be the right shade of green (or close enough to it) and for them to not cost a fortune. Because it’s a spring wedding, I think tea-length styles would look nice, but it’s not necessary. I’ve also flip-flopped on a previous thought that all of the dresses should be the same. I guess I would prefer it if they were, but if they aren’t, it’s not a big deal.

Seems like the best place to go is an Alfred Angelo store because they have a variety of styles and plenty of sizes for the girls to try on. Plus, their Celadon color is the closest match to my dad’s car.

Here are some that I like:

I wish she were standing up so I could get the full effect of this next one.

The rhinestone accent on this one is super cute.

But I’m most curious to see how this one looks on my girls.

Can you believe that it’s a mother of the bride dress? I think it would be fabulous for bridesmaids.

It’s kind of hard work playing dress-up with your bridesmaids. But regardless, I’m pretty sure all of them are going to rock their look!

How did you settle on a dress for your girls?

I did something similar with my girls (also with Alfred Angelo). My colors are black and white (so they ended up with black dresses).

Amazingly enough they all ended up liking and purchasing the same dress (which is #3 on the list). They have all raved about the quality of the dress and they are excited about being able to wear them again as they are definitely dressy but not to the point where you can’t wear them again.

Good luck!

I love the last dress!!! So cute. I planned on doing different dresses in the same color, but a sale at Ann Taylor changed all that. I love that you are planning the design of your wedding around your dad’s car.

It might be neat, too, if you did just a shade lighter than the car so that it matches, without you getting stressed out to try to match it exactly. We used Alfred Angelo, too, and had only great experiences. If you go into the store, they will give you tiny swatches of the colors since it is a little hard on the computer to get an accurate idea of the color in different materials. I like your idea to match the car - it will make for beautiful photos!

Oh, also, we did tea-length dresses, but they were in lettuce color.

I love Alfred Angelo!! If you check out my blog I have a few of his on there in “Tealness”. I love your color too! I like the one with the little bow on it (with the rhinestone)…very cute!

I took my bridesmaids to the bridesmaid mecca in SF- Bella Bridesmaids! It was perfect. They found dresses that suited their style that I would never have picked out in Chocolate Brown!! They are more expensive then I would have picked, but they genuinely like them so that is all that matters!!

My girls are wearing this Melissa Sweet dress. The meadow color might be good for you, although a little lighter than your dad’s car. It’s got pockets and I am in love with it.

With a $250ish price-tag though, this may not fit into the “not a fortune” category :(

Also love this one and there are some great shades of green…perhaps the moss?

My BMs are scattered all over the country, so I ended up doing an initial shopping trip with just one of them. She and I have very different body types, so we were able to narrow down the choices pretty quickly based on which ones looked equally good on both of us (my body type is similar to some of the other girls’, so it worked out well). Then I sent pics of us trying on the dresses to the rest of the girls, and it was actually surprisingly easy to get them to agree on one style!

I wore the second dress, but in hot pink for a wedding. It wasn’t super comfy, but it was affordable and cute. Also, we all have different bodies, but we all looked nice! Alfred Angelo makes great dresses!

Love them! This is exactly what I was looking for when looking at bridesmaids dresses.

Check out what we ended up with: http://www.freewebs.com/lisaanddave/apps/photos/photo.jsp?photoID=17055185

The dress style is almost exactly like the Alfred Angelo #2 style (which we tried on!). I let my bridesmaids decide and they preferred the Jasmine one (above.) Felt it was more comfortable and breathable. We got them at a place in Swissvale and I would highly recommend them! The service was much better than at Alfred Angelo’s and they were willing to negotiate the price. They carry the full line of Jasmine dresses and most of them come in the sage color! Let me know if you’re interested in the name of the place!

My girls are getting green dresses from Alfred Angelo too, only in kiwi green. And my mom, who’s also my matron of honor, is wearing the last outfit you posted, only her top will be white and the bottom will be kiwi green. She can’t wait to dance at the reception in the skirt - it was so much fun having her try on these dresses! Good luck!

I love Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses! My girls are wearing the same dresses in the same color, and in fact, the second to last dress (with the rhinestone brooch) is one of them. They’re all wearing different ones, but all short satin dresses. I had so much fun shopping with each girl to find dresses that looked the best on them.

Also, a bit of info that you might find helpful: Alfred Angelo is the only designer I know of that builds an extra inch of fabric into the seams so they can be let out. That could seriously come in handy.

I liked Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses too, but (if you haven’t) be sure to call ahead to make sure that they have the styles you want in the sizes you need… to try on. Color won’t be as important, but it’s really hard to tell if you like a dress if the only one they have in that style is 10 sizes too big. {I had that experience with a local AA shop… each shop chooses what they order so they often don’t order them all.}

Gorgeous color, Miss DE! Maybe you can let them each pick the style they like best, since there are so many options in the same shade? Less headache for you too! ;)

I picked AA as well, in celadon, style 6453!
It will have a chocolate brown sash. All the girls seemed to like it, but now I wonder what they would’ve picked had I given them the choice!

I wasn’t sure how to contact you, but by any chance did you attend a Running of the Brides event in D.C. of last year. You look so familiar. If this is not you, please ignore. You remind me of the girl who was in line next to my crew (pink shirts, Pilar’s Crew). Just curious?
