Hello, Hive! I’ve abandoned you for awhile.
I never would have thought that married life would be more hectic than engaged life, but it’s true–life with the Toucans has been CRAZY. I hope to make it all up to you by resuming our wedding recap with lots of pictures!! I’m going a little out of sequence here and moving from our first dance straight to the cutting of the cake(s) (I skipped the speeches, for now, because I’m hoping to get some video to show you!).

Before we cut the cakes, our DJ/emcee told us to link arms for this champagne toast. I always thought it was quite cheesy, but I quite like this photo! Anyway, on to the cakes! Mr. Toucan and I are fortunate to have a talented friend who is quite the baker. She made us not one–but two cakes– as a wedding gift to us!
I had wanted a super simple cake, and pointed to a lot of April Reed cakes for inspiration. The second cake was for Mr. Toucan, but I think I loved it just as much as he did! She based the design of the Mario Cake off of the famous Mario Cake by Gateaux Inc. We think she really needs to get into the cake baking business!
After our champagne toast, we had a little smooch and cut the cake.
The thing about cutting wedding cake is no one tells you how hard it is! So, a tip from the Toucster: CUT A BIG PIECE! If you don’t, your first piece of cake will look like this: Mush.
I love Mr. Toucan’s reaction in the above photo, and I think I thought it was pretty hilarious then too:
After we fed each other the wedding cake, we moved on to the groom’s cake:
We learned our lesson this time, and we cut a humongo piece.
Note: Mr. Toucan also picked the flavor of the groom’s cake, his favorite cake flavor–confetti cake!
After feeding each other the Mario Cake, our DJ/emcee said that we had done it the “boring” way, and decided to have some more fun with us. She took the remnants of our humongo piece of cake, and took Mr. Toucan to the middle of the dance floor.
Then, she put a piece in his mouth and told him to hold it there. After she turns to me, and says, “Now, go get your cake!”
I love this series of pictures below, known as “the cake swap.” But… I’m not going to caption them–I think it’s pretty obvious what happened!
tee-hee! Good times! Do you know what just happened?!
