After two years, he moved to my neck of the woods, and a year and a half after that, he proposed at the “place we fell in love.” I am a true perfectionist who enjoys designing and creating more work for myself, so wedding planning is my perfect outlet. Mr. Cupcake and I are both old souls, and we hope to weave that aspect of our personalities into our wedding day.
About Mrs. Cupcake

Just as Mrs. Bee mentioned, my “secret life” is nowhere near as juicy as Mrs. Penguin’s, so I’m going to follow the queen Bee’s lead and enlighten you with a handful of tidbits that you probably don’t know about me… “Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Mrs. Cupcake,” if you will. ;-)

Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Mrs. Cupcake, #1:
In college, my life revolved around my theatre group. Don’t get me wrong — I worked my butt off in my graphic design major and spent more hours in the design studio than in my own house — but being a part of a 100% student run theatre group where I met some of my greatest friends provided me with the most wonderful memories from my four years at the University of Delaware (go Blue Hens!). I am not a very good singer, but I took dance lessons from age 3-18, and somehow I always faked my way through the singing part of musical auditions (and redeemed myself with my dance skills) enough to land roles. Most of the time I was in the ensemble, but that was all I wanted. Being on the stage was always the most amazing feeling for me, and the friendships I came away with were the icing on top. In my senior year at UD I was given the opportunity to co-choreograph a production of “Cabaret.” It was one of the most difficult, challenging, humbling and sometimes frustrating experiences of my life, but it was also one of the greatest.

My performing days are pretty much over since it’s not something I was good enough at to pursue as a career, but I am still a sucker for show tunes (my faves are Chicago, Wicked, and Millie) and I still tear up a little bit with admiration anytime I am in the presence of amazing talent on stage.

Five of my closest friends from my college theatre group attended our wedding… can’t you just feel the love and warm fuzzies???

Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Mrs. Cupcake, #2:
Going along with the theme of the dancer deep down inside of this Cupcake, on occasion I do something that drives Mr. Cupcake absolutely insane — I dance in the car. Don’t worry, I’m never the driver… but when Mr. Cupcake is driving and a particularly dance-worthy song comes on the radio, I dance like a crazy woman in the passenger seat. I LOVE to embarrass Mr. Cupcake and look like a maniac to people in passing cars. I do the robot, the Cabbage Patch — you name it, I’ll dance it. One time, we were driving to the King of Prussia mall (about 25 minutes from where we live) and I started dancing a few minutes into our trip. Mr. Cupcake told me that if I danced the whole way to the mall, he would buy me ice cream when we got there. I love a challenge, so I danced my little heart out for quite a few songs… until I decided that I didn’t really want ice cream anyway, so I threw in the towel. But still, if you’ve ever danced in a car for 10 minutes, you should know that it seems like a LOT longer! ;-)

Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Mrs. Cupcake, #3:
I am terrified of having my eyebrows waxed. I did it once before my best friend’s wedding, and I was red for days — luckily the redness went away the day before her wedding (in which I was the maid of honor), but I was still traumatized. However, if I don’t do something about these suckers I’d have the unibrow of the century, so I pluck and shape my own eyebrows. And honestly, if I go more than two days without plucking, the unibrow starts to appear (I am not exaggerating — I am Italian, people), so I pluck a little bit every day. Tweezers are my friend, and I have learned not to overpluck (unlike my high school days, when I often got a little overzealous with the tweezers and ended up with two big caterpillars above my eyes that were a bit too far apart from each other). And I get really excited when people compliment me on my eyebrows, which I think is a very strange thing to compliment someone on, but it’s happened more than once, and I’ll take what I can get.

Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Mrs. Cupcake, #4:
The first concert I ever went to was Debbie Gibson. I was ten years old and she was my idol. My mom took me to the concert — I remember I wore a teal (yes, teal!), oversized cotton t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up and tucked into denim cut-off shorts with pink slouchy socks, LA Gear sneakers and my hair in a side ponytail. I sang along to every. single. word. I was on a cloud for weeks after the concert. If anyone ever contested that Tiffany was better than Debbie Gibson, I fought back that Tiffany didn’t write her own songs — Debbie did. I was a member of the DGIF (Debbie Gibson International Fanclub) and I owned several bottles of Electric Youth perfume (I still have one… and it still smells exactly the same as I remember! Don’t worry, I don’t wear it anymore… but do you believe you can still buy the stuff???). My mix tapes of that era consisted mostly of Debbie songs, just rearranged in a different order from what was on her tapes. I was even Debbie Gibson for Halloween one year (complete with the black hat, vest and Electric Youth flag). The aforementioned unibrow looked spectacular paired with my blonde wig. If only I knew where a photo was to show you…

Will this make up for it?

She wishes to be called “Deborah” now, but she’ll always be Debbie to me.

I think I’ll end it there… I mean really, what could top Debbie???? :-)

Does anyone else out there share my love of the theatre, affinity for dancing in the car like a maniac, fear of eyebrow waxing, or idolization of Debbie Gibson?

I dance in the car like a maniac everyday, and I sing too, neither of which I’m good at. It drives my Mr. insane but I think I’m slowly rubbing off on him. Don’t tell anyone though!

HA! I LOVED Electric Youth perfume :) Didn’t it have a hot pink coil around the little tube thing? Vague description, I know.

Loved Debbie. Loved.

I dance in the car also. But mostly with my hands. My BF calls it “hand dancing”. LOL. He hates it. LOL

You should try getting your eyebrows threaded. It is cheaper than waxing (usually) and more accurate! I turn red after waxing, too. But not after threading!!

I LOVED Electric Youth perfume. I always preferred Debbie to Tiffany, especially after I heard Tiffany was dating Jon from the New Kids on The Block. OH THE HORROR! :P

AH! I’m a car dancer too! The kookier the better!

I also second AbbyM’s suggestion, you should try threading and see how you like it!

Bwahahahaha love the video! Here’s a little excerpt from my sister’s maid of honor toast at our wedding, it explains it all - obsessed just wasn’t the word when it came to Debbie….
“I did not always realize that I was so lucky to have such an amazing sister. There were times, as with any siblings growing up, that quite frankly I thought, “No, no, I don’t want to be just like my sister.” Take for instance while growing up her inclination to walk around with a metal bucket on her head. Why, you ask, would a twelve-year old girl stroll around the yard singing with a bucket on her head? Well, according to Jenny, the acoustics in that bucket were better than any Broadway Theatre, and she sounded more like Debbie Gibson with that thing on her head. Oh yes, Debbie Gibson was alive and well in Cameron Park, California.”

Debbie Gibson’s electric youth tour was my first concert . . . . I had an elaborate theory of why she was a genius — not some poptart like Tiffany. ;-P

I too am a car dancer! My sister and I choreographed a car-dance to Rock Your Body by J Tims on our way to Berkeley to drop her off her Freshman year. Yah, we’re that cool :)

See… I knew why I had a huge crush on you :)

Wanna come dance out to Debbie in my bright yellow car? :) It’s much more fun when you can’t be ignored… trust me. And we can sing along to the show tunes on my ipod. :)

I like your eyebrows too! Haha, I am OBSESSED about having nicely shaped eyebrows so I notice other people’s brows most of the time, even though other people (guys) say people NEVER notice them. I would be so flattered if people complimented me on my eyebrows.

My older sister was a DGIF member, too! And in the grand tradition of little sisters… I idolized her as well. :) I could probably still sing most of the lyrics to her songs which we had on RECORD and cassette tape. That just goes to show how long ago it really was! And about your concert-going attire, I think we children of the 80’s were all guilty of those fashion disasters. ;) I’m pretty sure I probably rocked the same outfit… only I probably added intertwined rubber bracelets as a special added touch. Haha!

YES! Theatre nerds unite! And I coveted my electric youth perfume. AND I’m known among friends for my chair-dancing abilities. No, not sexy chair dancing… nerdy, embarassing arms flailing dancing :)
You’re awesome.

I also support the threading suggestions. Accurate, fast, the cleaning lasts longer, and the hairs grow back lighter/finer than before.

OMG MRS. Cupcake WILL YOU BE MY BFF ??!!! If you moved to Cali …. we could totally go hang out with Lemon, belt show tunes, car dance to Debbie Gibson (in fact I was known for making a spectacle out of myself when I had a convertible, I can second Lemon on it being more fun when you can’t be ingored !) , and I too was a dancer for most of my life, so maybe we could even get some of our theatre friends together and put on a mini production LOL.

@Jenny Louwheeze: LOVE IT. I definitely thought I sounded like Debbie…. so, so sad ;)

@Miss Hot Cocoa: I know, Tiffany was TOTALLY not as cool!

@Mrs. Lemon and
@Cara: Go ahead and buy me a plane ticket and I’ll be there! Hehe.

Confession: I was holding a pair of tweezers as I read your post. I was reading today’s posts…taking a break to tweeze…and reading some more. And yes, I am Italian.

Phew. It’s good to get that off my chest. Thanks, Mrs. Cupcake!

I also am afraid of getting my eyebrows waxed — fortunately, a place to get your eyebrows threaded just opened this summer in Center City Philadelphia!!!

Mrs. Cupcake - I was just catching up on your posts as I haven’t been on in some time! I loved reading your blogs while you were planning your wedding and the more I read, the more I noticed we had in common. In reading this post I just had to comment - I can’t believe you went to UD too. I grew up in Delco, got married on 9/20/08 at the Radnor Hotel (looked there and the Desmond!), and graduated from UD in ‘03. Too funny! I hope you and your husband are enjoying your first holiday season together!
