The Story:

Our wedding had a distinct Brooklyn vibe, and since we were married in the spring, our colors were a bright green and white, with punches of yellow. The ceremony was held at the Armenian Catholic Cathedral in Williamsburg, Brooklyn… very convenient since it was just a 5 minute ride to the reception at Stage 6. Since the ceremony itself was pretty traditional, we went all out modern for the reception!

I did a lot of DIY things for the reception because I’m pretty obsessed with handmade details. Some of things I did: sew covers for the centerpiece vases, gocco all of our guestbook cards, design 1″ buttons as a little takeaway gift and made our caketopper and ring pillow. It was time consuming, but definitely worth it.

The Dancing!

Real Weddings: Vane and Chad : wedding features 1355.jpg

At all Armenian weddings, we have our own version of line dancing, so we gave the band a CD to play with a bunch of ethnic music and to my amazement, we had almost everyone on the dance floor dancing along! One of my favorite photos is a quasi-aerial view of how that looked!

The Father/Daughter Dance

One of my favorite moments was doing the tango with my dad for our father/daughter dance. Everyone thought we had rehearsed for weeks, but in reality, we totally winged it!

Having a “faux-to” booth set up at the entrance of the dining room was also great, because it gave everyone a chance to get a little goofy and take some hilarious photos.

We all had a lot of fun, and people still tell us what a great time they had, so I guess we did a pretty good job as is! I do wish more people stopped by the “faux-to” booth. Apparently some people missed it on their way in, so they weren’t in any of the funny photos.

Final Thoughts:

Do research on your vendors. Hire ones you trust so you can relax on the big day. Don’t worry about the little hiccups during the day either; it’s inevitable that something will go wrong, but hey, there’s nothing you can do at that point. Hire a day-of coordinator to deal with all of that!
