About Mrs. Pomegranate

Oopsie! I got a little distracted, as my pro photos have arrived! The wedding recap will begin shortly. Where were we? Oh yes!

The Poms’ Minimoon Part I: Checking in and Culinary Delights
The Poms’ Minimoon Part II: The Sigur Ros Concert & a Massage

After my semi-helpful deep-tissue massage and Mr. Pom’s man facial, we wandered around the Pearl District, checking out real estate, wandering into little shops (like the Recycled Chic Boutique) while heading towards one of Mr. Pom’s favorite places to eat in Portland: Henry’s 12th Street Tavern.

From the inside looking out.

A local amber ale - my fav. I wish I could remember its name. It was gooooood!

z17189202

My crazy blue cheese burger - it looks alive doesn’t it!? You can see Mr. Pom’s mushroom burger behind it.

Once we had eaten a solid meal, we headed back to the hotel to rest up before heading out for our “Dive Bar Night.” See, Mr. Pom and I, we love a good dive bar. We will eat 5-star fare, dress up, all that - but we have a penchant for stiff drinks in scary looking places. We had to experience the city as we would if we lived there.

So we headed towards Dante’s, a place Mr. Pom had been a few years ago. Not exactly the worst of all dive bars, it was actually a pretty fun venue to check out local bands. As luck would have it, we were able to catch a glimpse of The Ed Foreman Show. The Ed Foreman is a “live, 70’s style, late-night comedy talk show, hosted by motivational speaker Ed Foreman, whose energetic, overzealous, oversexed lessons, will help you Laugh, Love, and Live, on this monumental day in U.S. history.” He was hilarious - so hilarious in fact, that we ended up staying and eating pizza for dinner there.

Mmmm… pizza!

The Ed Foreman Show - he had me in tears!

Once we had our fill of Portland dive bars, we headed to Voodoo Doughnut - which happened to be right around the corner! I had been dying to try out these famed confections - especially when I found out that they are well-known for being a wedding chapel as well!

An example of a unique Voodoo Doughnut wedding - this is the ring exchange, done with chocolate and bacon French crullers.

Caught red-handed! Mr. Pom snapped this photo of me lying in the hotel bed (What? I had a towel to catch the crumbs!) with my Dirty Harry doughnut. It’s a raised donut covered in peanut butter and Oreos. SO GOOD!

With Voodoo Doughnuts in hand, we headed back to the hotel, buzzed, full and happy. We’ll leave the View for the LAST and final post, The Poms’ Minimoon Part IV: That View, Something Blue and Bidding Portland Adieu.

I am SO JEALOUS you went to Voodoo Doughnut! I’ve wanted to visit Portland for years, and once FI and I saw Anthony Bourdain’s show about Portland and he went to Voodoo, we said to each other that we needed to get out there STAT!

yay I’ve missed you Pom! And that dougnut cake is AWESOME!!… And I don’t even like dougnuts anymore… blame it on a cool mom who took us out for dougnuts and a dougnut shop coke (with the good ice) many school mornings :)

Haha, I agree with a commentor above….As a Portlander, it’s fun to see my city from an outsider’s prospective. I love love love my little city, and feel a strange sense of civic pride when someone else does too! =)

Hey, that’s my wedding!

SUCH a fun time.

And, oh yeah, people feigned horror at my special order bacon chocolate crullers, but I’ll tell you what, there sure weren’t any left at the end of the day!

Love to Rob Lobster, our high voo doo priest.
