Reception Songs

November 10th, 2008 @ 11:04 am by Mrs. Spring Roll

One of the first vendors that Mr. Spring Roll and I booked was our DJ. I absolutely love to dance, if you can call it that. I tend to throw my arms all over, and jump around. Regardless of my moves, I plan to dance the majority of our wedding reception. Therefore, good music is crucial. Our DJ has asked us to provide a list of ‘must play’, as well as ‘do not play’ songs.

Dancing at sister Spring Roll’s wedding

Our ‘must play’ list includes “SexyBack” by Justin Timberlake, “Vogue” by Madonna, “Hella Good” by No Doubt, “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, and “Motown Philly” by Boyz II Men (as kids, sister Spring Roll and I made up a dance to this after watching Full House).

While we’re not too picky, we do have a few ‘do not play’ songs, including “Who Let the Dogs Out” by Baha Men, and “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan (this song plays during a sad animal cruelty commercial and makes me cry when I hear it).

What songs are on your ‘must play’ and ‘do not play’ list?

I love dancing to hella good! :) Mr. Taffy is doing our playlist, so I might have to barter with him to get some of my favorites in there. We both love dancing around to the song Gamma Ray by Beck, that will be on there for sure! :)

My do not play: That incredibly ridiculous and disgustingly annoying “every-body clap your hands” song…you know with the jumping to the left, etc.

That song is crap I tell you, crap!

OMG my daughter bursts into tears whenever that song comes on during the animal cruelty commercials. On the other hand, that incredibly ridiculous song Mrs. Corn speaks of was a “Must Play” on our DJ list because of my daughter. On a plus side it does make everyone dance.

I’m the same way about “Angel.” When I hear that song, I sit on my couch and just SOB about all of the horrible things done to animals!

Must plays: “Baby Got Back” is always a hit! And… who can go without a little Bon Jovi… “Livin’ on a prayer”!

And, I too, must disagree with Mrs. Corn… not because I like the “Cha-Cha Slide”… but because it gets people on the floor… especially the ones who don’t know the group participation dances! It’s perfect… it tells you EXACTLY what to do! I was at a wedding this weekend where the grandparents were doing this one! :)

Our must-play list was “chronologically or stylistically pre-Elvis,” so our do-not-play list was just “No Michael Buble” written three different ways. Man, I can’t stand Michael Buble.

Wow, Motown Philly has brought back memories … and whenever that Sarah McLachlan ad starts up I yell at the fiance “turn it over, turn it over!”

I have to have ‘Now that we’ve found love’ by Heavy D and the Boyz on the list … just can’t not dance to that one!

(if you want a better version of ChaCha Slide, how about the Cupid Shuffle? That’s not too bad - right?)

I’m glad I’m not the only weenie who cries at that animal cruelty commercial! ;)

well, we had a band…so it would have been kind of silly to have the cha…cha song, regardless. But my experience with it at DJ’d weddings is that it is usually blasted from the speakers as though the louder it is the more people might actually dance to it; that people just look around awkwardly like they are all thinking ‘what the F*ck is this crap?’ and the older crowd ends up thinking that this is the type of music that us crazy-kids are listening to these days. Which…hell-to-the-no.

I was just thinking about this yesterday! I looove the song “Dirrty” by Christina Aguilera and I want to make absolutely sure that it is played and I am on the dance floor for it, along with all of my best girls. Whenever the song comes on (at a bar, in the car…anywhere really) I go crazy. And maybe I have a choreographed dance to it. Maybe…

Oh man, I can’t handle those animal commercials either! Mr T makes such fun of me, so it’s good to know I’m not alone! (Then again, he’s a huge softie who’s constantly donating to animal causes, so he’s not really one to talk….)

LOL @ Mrs. Corn. It took a looong time for me to come around to that awful song. My daughter is so cute doing the dance that I can’t help myself. BTW I dispise the cupid shuffle too. 100%.

@ lou. Thank you. Now I can’t get Heavy D out of my head! Argh!!!

our must play list consisted of every song I love to line dance to plus all the songs Mr. P loves that I had never heard of. :)
Our do not play list was anything that iTunes deemed explicit. Or songs that really didn;t seem weddingy like “Womanizer.” Luckily I made the playlists so there was nothing on there that would make me cringe!

We had Sexy Back playing when we announced our wedding party- great song! Our do not play list consisted of dances like the Funky Chicken or Macarena, NO Conga lines- songs like that! I am not a fan of “group” dance songs- maybe it’s because I had to do these dance one too many times at a past job.

Our must play was a New Kids on the Block song (brought back old memories) and surprisingly there were even guys at the wedding into the song!

Sister Springroll

I have to say how terribly creepy it was reading this entry posted by my sister blogger Miss Springroll because as I sat here reading this entry that horrible Animal Cruelty commercial just so happened to come on (I haven’t seen it in over 3 months, weird right?). As I type this comment my husband says “Uh oh, your favorite commerial is on babe” and turns it up very loud… yeah, he loves me ;)

I have to disagree with Mrs. Corn as well because I got married 6 months ago and NO ONE was dancing until that song came on. I definitely say it should be on the “must play” list as well as The Electric Slide :)

ooooh, I forgot! I am obsessed with the Wind it Up song by Gwen Stefani because I love that she sampled the sound of music!!! :) That song gets stuck in my head all the time, and every time it does, I do a little dance. :)
