I’ve shown you our urban shots, so now it’s time for some fun! All of these were taken at the Tennessee State Fair.
We changed into some more casual outfits, and I pulled my hair into pigtails. My make-up was still holding up (i.e., I hadn’t rubbed my eyebrows off yet).
As soon as we got there, Mr. Fondue got summoned over to a dart throwing game. He won me a little stuffed duck, and then the fair worker tried to get him to pay $20 to upgrade it. No, thanks. I’m fine with my duck.
After buying ride tickets, we headed over to the swings. This is our favorite shot. We purchased a really large canvas print of it.
Kate is scared of heights, but we bribed her to get on the swings with her favorite food: macaroni and cheese. Okay, she probably would have done it anyway. I forgot I was wearing sandals until we were already in place in our swing, so a lot of the shots have my feet desperately trying to keep my shoes from flying off and killing someone below.

After the swings, we hit the ferris wheel. There were two at the fair: the double wheel you see in the background of the swings pictures and a large gondola wheel. The double wheel seemed to be out of commission and wasn’t running, so the three of us hopped in a gondola for some shots. Check out the duck that Mr. Fondue won for me!

A year or two ago, Mr. Fondue and I were watching the Audrey Hepburn movie Charade. At one point, she puts her finger in Cary Grant’s chin dimple and says, “How do you shave in there?”. Ever since then, I’ve had this strange compulsion to do this to Mr. Fondue, even though he doesn’t have a chin dimple. So, I think that’s what I’m doing in this shot. That, or I’m telling him to hush.
Next, Kate told us to pose in front of the spider ride to get some motion-blurred shots. Except it took like 15 minutes for the ride to get going because we chose to do this as they were unloading and loading the ride. I took this time to take a nap.

We were almost out of ride tickets, so we jumped on the carousel last. That is, the world’s worst carousel. It was very jerky and the lights tended to flicker. We were fairly certain the ride was going to break down at any minute. Notice our smile-like-you-don’t-think-this-is-the-most-pathetic-carousel-ever expressions in the first shot.

This was around the area where the scary clown appeared out of nowhere. Luckily, there were no pictures of that.
We took a break in front of a food stand. We were unfortunately out of money, so we couldn’t actually get any fair food to take pictures with. Those ride tickets are pricey!

Here we are leaving the fairgrounds.
And time for bed!

Did anyone else have their photos taken at a fair or amusement park?
