About Mrs. Powder Puff

Why Hello There!

November 12th, 2008 @ 6:04 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

I’m Miss Powder Puff, and I’m thrilled to be the newest bee to buzz around the hive!

Here’s a little info about myself. I’m a Michigan transplant living in Chicago, but planning a wedding back home. Sounds great, right? Well here’s the kicker—Mr. Powder Puff and I are planning our wedding for only $10,000!

We decided on that budget for a couple of reasons. First of all, we feel very strongly that the wedding industry has turned something that is about promising to spend your life with your best friend into, well, something else. Tune into shows like “Platinum Weddings” (on the WE network), and you’ll see what I mean. Amongst all the signature cocktails and gilded wedding cakes, they’ve lost the original, sacred meaning of the ceremony itself (my apologies if any of you enjoy these types of events. They are merely not my style). So Mr. Powder Puff and I decided to keep our budget small for the sake of keeping our wedding sane. We want to focus on the day rather than stress over a million details.

Second of all, we are saving for a down payment on a house.

Keeping our budget as low as possible is allowing us to have a home to live in after we say, “I do!” So be on the lookout for DIY projects galore—I love to craft!

Now, a little bit about Mr. Powder Puff and myself. We have been dating for a year and a half, and we’ve been engaged since May. We met in a very surprising way—online (more about that later)! Mr. Powder Puff is amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to be his wife!

Why Hello There! : wedding Summer
Thanks for having me, girls! I can’t wait for us to get to know each other!

Our budget for 125 people is $10K also, and so far we’re under it. It’s not so hard, just necessary to be able to break from what the ‘wedding industrial complex’ says you need. I’m excited to hear about your planning and budgeting!

I’m with you on the budget. Mind you, we have less that 25 peeps attending our wedding, it is a destination wedding. So including flight and hotel we’re budgeting for $8000-10,000. It can (and will) be done!

It’s so nice to hear about other budget weddings! We’re planning a 200 person wedding for under $15,000, and so far, it’s been really testing our creativity! Welcome, and I can’t wait to see & hear more. :)

We are planning a 175 person wedding for $14k in Louisville and its a challenge. We are DIY’ing a lot - invitations, flowers (except bouquets) and decor. Simple buffet and limiting the open bar to beer and wine and DJ instead of a band. The important part for us was getting all the people we wanted there - we both have big families we wanted to include so we sacrificed on some of the luxuries.
