Our Dating Years, In Book Form

November 12th, 2008 @ 4:17 pm by Mrs. Sushi

I have a habit of starting craft projects and then never finishing them. There was the pair of bell bottom pants I tried to hand sew in high school, or the sock monkey I never finished and I have a couple scrapbooks that are less than halfway done.

Most of my projects end up looking like this… not finished. source

Last year, when I was a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding, another bridesmaid and I started meeting once a week to scrapbook the bride’s wedding events. In 6 months, we were able to scrap all the bridal events; the shower, the bachelorette party, and the wedding. We had gotten sooo much done that we decided to continue to meet once a week and start scrapping our own memories. She worked on a book for her husband and I started to scrap all the dating memories of Mr. Sushi and I.

I’ve been working on the book for 5 months now, and I’m maybe halfway done. With a lil’ over 3.5 months before we leave for Hawaii (YIKES), I’m hoping to have the book done by then so I can have it on display at our welcome BBQ. I’ve been working double time to get it done and am really excited to finally have finished something. I might actually finish a craft project! Mr. Sushi knows I’ve been working on it and as much as I’ve tried to show it to him, he refuses to look at it and wishes to be surprised when it’s all done.

Any projects you’ve been working on that might not be done before their deadline?

I love your pages! I’m a scrapbooker, too, and am working on putting together an album our Mr. DE and I. I hope to have it done in time for display at my bridal shower. Best of luck in finishing yours! I hope you post pictures when you have it done.

Oh, I love this idea! I’ve been wanting to take up scrapbooking. Where do you get your scrapbook supplies? How did you learn how to make it look so great? Trial and error? A class? Love it!

I’m constantly starting projects and not finishing them! It’s a terrible habit and I can’t even think about how much money I’ve wasted!

@Tamara: I get my supplies at various places. Believe it or not, check Walmart! They have some great affordable stickers and their solid color 12×12 paper is the cheapest. I usually buy patterned paper in backs at Michaels (be sure to use their 40% off coupons for those!). For more specific paper and stamps (like if I’m scraping a camping trip and I want camping themed paper and stickers) I go to my local scrapbook store. As for putting the pages together, it is trial and error. Look at magazines (or scrapbook catalogs, like stamp it up, for ideas and inspiration). Here’s the scrapbook store I shop at: http://www.hersheyscrapbook.com
if you click on “ideas” at the top, there are some ready made pages you can get inspiration from.

@beaninca: What’s helped me a lot of organization. I pretty much print photos right away and place them in a shoe box. So now I have all my photos of Mr. Sushi and I in one place so when I decide to scrap them I don’t have to figure out what I should print and what I should use. It is very overwhelming at first! If you have a friend that scraps or wants to scrap, get started together! It’s nice having a person there to help you!
