I can’t believe it’s almost here—we’re just one sleep away from our flight to Punta Cana! Casa Sea Breeze has seen a flurry of activity over the past week so there’s been little time for blogging, which is driving me crazy! So even though I should instead be crafting our ceremony words, writing an email to all our guests, organizing music, and printing pictures of flowers and cakes to take with me, I’m going to try to wrap up just a few of the details I’ve been taking care of lately… like my makeup trial.
So I know this seems a bit late in the game—I just did the trial last Thursday—but I swear it’s not because I procrastinated (this time, anyway). Confession time: I know it’s sort of terrible and I promise I won’t do it again but you have to admit, it’s sort of necessary in my situation… I’ve been fake n’ baking. C’mon, cut me some slack! The last thing I want to happen is to get to the Dominican and soak up some rays only to be lobster-red on our wedding day, or worse—have some crazy strappy tan lines.

I don’t know these girls but I love this photo!
Just add it to my list of Things I’ll Only Do Once For My Wedding (like eyelash extensions - that turned out to be a disaster… I’ll have to do that update soon).
So that’s why my makeup trial was so late—I had to wait to build up that base tan to make sure I got makeup to match. I’m way too anal to let someone else do my makeup but I did want an expert’s advice for some colors and maybe a couple new tricks, so I made an appointment for a consultation at MAC (for you Vancouver gals, it was the one on Robson).
My guy Lyle was totally fantastic. When I told him we were doing a destination wedding, he promised to show me how to do my makeup so that it wouldn’t melt in 85°F temperatures.
And now for the photos. After a long day at the office, I arrived looking like this. After two weeks of visits to a tanning salon, I STILL don’t look tanned, do I??

And in show of solidarity for all the brave Bees before me, here’s the sans-makeup shot:

So many colors to choose from…

Lyle ended up going with these: Bare Canvas eye shadow base; Brulé (for highlights), All That Glitters (for lids), and Charcoal Brown (for crease) shadows; Select Cover-Up in NC35; Blush in Gingerly; Mineralize Skin Finish powder in Light Medium; Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Stubborn Brown; Lustreglass lip gloss in Love Nectar; Cremestick Pearl Lip Liner in Gingerroot; Brow Pencil in Lingering.

Success! I look like me, just a more bridey, polished version of me. I definitely learned some new tricks and I feel much more confident about doing my own makeup. I just hope I’ll be able to pull it off as well as the MAC expert did. AND… I hope after three days under the sun, I don’t get TOO tanned so the cover-up I bought doesn’t match anymore. Yikes. I’d better go pack that sunblock while it’s fresh in my mind…
Anyone else doing their own makeup for their wedding day? How about hitting the tanning bed—do you plan to?
