Make Me Purty

November 13th, 2008 @ 3:27 pm by Mrs. Meatball

Recently, I had a consultation with a hair/makeup artist. I was referred to him through my benevolent bride friend, Kerri, after I saw how incredibly glowing and lovely she looked in her photos.

I’m not much of a makeup person. On a daily basis I wear sunscreen and lip gloss. Sometimes I wear mascara and blush gel too… but that’s about as far as it goes. Oftentimes, when I get makeup professionally done, it feels cakey and matte. It might look great on film, but in person, it’s 3 layers deep. I don’t want that for my wedding. I want to have a radiant, dewy look that looks great both on film and in person. More like I just had an invigorating romp—all flushed and natural. Is it possible?

In a hunt for inspiration, I turned to celebs with similar complexions as mine (read: vampiric). Here’s what I came up with:

Ah, Kate, you are ethereal. And, Cate, your sassy freshness is inspiring! Love the hair, too!

Rory er, Alexis, how sweet! And Claire, even with a touch of the crazy-eye, you still look clean and fresh.

Elisha, you are nearly perfect in your berry lovely glow!

What do you think? Which is your favorite?

I’m still a little lost on the hair… I’m not talented enough to style my own hair, but I have to say I’m blown away by some people’s price lists for styling! I understand paying $175 for an elaborate updo… but for someone like me with shorter hair… it just feels excessive.

I feel like maybe a wavy bob might be fun…

Less crazy than her, though.

And this is a terrible picture, but I loved Miranda’s hair at her wedding. Piece-y and slightly wavy.

Hair is way harder for me to figure out. Mine is thinnish and given to scraggles. I recently got “the perfect haircut” but I fear having it consistent for 6 more months is impossible. I want something I don’t have to worry about all night, but something that feels special and will hold up to dancing. I know what I’m wearing in it, I just don’t know about the style. I’m leaning toward some simple waves and sideswept bangs… that shouldn’t be too hard, should it?

What are other short haired brides doing with their hair?

i had what my stylist (and cousin-in-law) deemed the downdo. she doesn’t do updos for any amount of money, so she just curled my hair into waves. i loved it. i felt enough like myself and yet still fabulous. name should link to the 5 or so nonpro pics on our flickr site.

I don’t want to wear foundation either!!! Powder is ok, but I hate feeling anything else on my skin. Good luck, love the inspiration photos!

I loved Miranda’s hair at her wedding too! I would go for that look, and if you get a decent stylist, she should be able to do something that will last all night.

I had been growing my hair out for a short bob but … ultimately decided that I’m happiest with short.. short hair. I just cut all of my hair off and now have a pixie cut, which I’ll have styled for my june 09 wedding. I feel like a garden faerie in my gown. Don’t think I’ll be spiking it for the wedding though :P

I’m in hollywood too and am looking for a makeup artist; almost feel like i’ll be going to a department store on the morning of my wedding just to have my makeup done.

I used michelle williams in this picture as my inspiration for pale skin.

Also, my hair is a little shorter than yours and I went with a head band with the hair behind it combed back into sort of a small pouf and the hair in front side swept. I was pleasantly surprised at how natural it looked, I got tons of compliments.

I highly recommend the amazing waves Christine Applegate rocks on her show Samantha Who? on abc. They are beautiful and hold but don’t look too crunchy! Very romantic! Love your posts!

Airbrush makeup is a great way to go if you want a natural non cake-like feeling.
